After Eyadema's death, Faure was the President for 20 days as the would-have-been acting President Fambaré Ouattara Natchaba (1945-2020) was out of the country. Faure resigned on 25th of February and Abass was the President until the 2005 election where Faure was elected and continues to be the Pres. of Togo. The only living former President of Togo is Emmanuel Bodjollé (1928-Unknown) who was the head of state for 2 days in January 1963 after the coup lead by him killed Sylvanus Olympio (1902-1963), the country's first leader. Gnassigbe Eyadema claimed to have shot Olympio himself.
