There was an apparent Virgin birth a couple of thousand years ago. Not sure the Virgin death ever made the history books.

Aye, going first with the worst safety record of the dick-wavers. You get the feeling that somewhere along the way it's going to end badly for one of them.

George Gershwin, one of the greatest composers and songwriters of all time known for popular songs as well as classical compositions, died of a glioblastoma of the right temporal lobe on this date in 1937. He was 38 years old. Gershwin had been in psychoanalytical care for some time and was hospitalized a few weeks before his death. He created some of the most beloved music of the twentieth century and, along with Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Cole Porter, helped make the golden age of Broadway golden. The opera Porgy and Bess was one of his creations. George Gershwin was buried at Westchester Hills Cemetery at Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester, New York, where his mausoleum is still visited.

From those photos I'd say Boycott is likely to be one of the next to go but we knew that anyway. Gower and Botham have aged quite a lot recently but don't look ill. Most of the others pictured look ok. Brearley hasn't changed much recently. Gooch looks very good for late 60s and will probably make old bones. Entire Australian squad from that series are all still batting (unlike England) but not much recent photographic evidence to go on.

Thanks. This news has certainly pushed Princess Alexandra much further down my long list and hence a lot further away from making it onto any short or final list. Her lack of activity in many regards did cause me to speculate but as things stand with this news, the chances Princess Alexandra will make it onto any of my lists in 2022 is decreasing.

Only 5 of the male grandslam winners since 1960 have died, yes. But that's still almost entirely sports men aged under 85. The fatal 5 Vitas Gerulaitis died aged 40 in a tragic carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty chimney in a house he was a guest in. Arthur Ashe died of AIDS aged 49 due to a blood transfusion fuckup. Andres Gimeno died in 2019 aged 82 after being ill for a long time. Rafael Osuna was killed aged 30 in a plane crash. Chuck McKinley died aged 45 of brain cancer. Tennis is meant to add years to your life (there is no cure for accidents or plane crashes) but it's 80s+, so Ullrich is still at the higher end of tennis longevity.
