3 pointsSo, curve ball for the Conservatives if Neil Parish decides to stand as an independent in his old seat (which - apparently - is under serious consideration). Anyone's guess how much of a vote A TRACTOR he would prove to be, but could split the agricultural vote and let someone else slip into the seat. Still a problem in that Labour (2nd) will want it and Lib Dems (who'll argue they're best placed to pull pissed-off tory votes) will likely hurl efforts at it ,so could turn into a proper fight! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-61438467

3 pointsNot looking remotely dead when I had an encounter with the man last night - finished the show by announcing another tour and different show to follow this one. Left me wondering how many (if any) luvvies or the like have done anything like a one man show aged 100. I know it was a running gag in George Burns' shows that he couldn't have a 100th birthday party because he'd be playing a gig in Caesar's Palace that night (he made 100 but was too weak to do the gig - though he joked that what he wanted for his birthday was a night with Sharon Stone). Anyway, Barry might still be on stage in 12 years time:

2 pointsThat's life for Frank Sinatra on this day 24 years ago, aged 82. Sinatra needs no introduction- he was one of the most famous singers ever. I'll just skip to his final years. Sinatra suffered from many ailments in the 1990s- ranging from high blood pressure to breathing difficulties to bladder cancer, leading to many hospitalizations. In 1997, a heart attack forced him to retire from making public appearances. Two more heart attacks were what "shot him down" in May 1998. Sinatra was also frequently included on the DeathList. He debuted in 1990 and made six appearances in total. He was the fourth death of 1998- coincidentally, he was fourth place on the list. I'm also going to add that the committee thought he was turning 79 in 1998 (he would've been 83 that December).

1 pointJoanna Barnes' death last month means the entire credited cast of the 1960 film Spartacus (starring DL favourite Kirk Douglas) is dead. However, according to IMDB the film had a lot of uncredited cast members, several of whom have no confirmed death dates. Taneli Rinne died off the radar last September. No online sources, but his death notice was published in Helsingin Sanomat in December.

1 pointAbsolute legend down the road. Biggest mistake he made was going to Rochdale. Of course he had to, it was, on paper, a better opportunity to test himself at a higher level, but Accy just keep improving. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for them to get in the play offs one of these years, and, who knows, if Wycombe can get up, then there's no reason Accrington couldn't have a season in the Championship. A well run club, with a committed manager operating under a strict budget, and a chairman who talks more sense than most. They like to see us as rivals, we're a lot closer in league status than we ever have been, but really, most people in Blackburn like to see Accrington doing well. It's the Dingles further down the road that we can't stand.

1 pointI use mine to buy a railcard every year. A £30 railcard is only £10 worth of Clubcard vouchers so it's a fantastic deal. You do it all online so no faffing about with actual vouchers. So to make sure I can accumulate a tenners worth I don't spend them on anything else - just keep an eye on the expiry dates. Ridiculous amount of security though, just to do that.

1 pointOn this day in 2018 Canadian American actress Margot Kidder committed suicide aged 69. She had struggled with her mental health for years particularly bipolar. She is best known for playing Lois Lane in the Superman movie franchise between 1978 and 1987 alongside Christopher Reeve as Superman. She also starred in many lesser known productions including Brian De Palma cult thriller film Sisters in 1973 and TV shows such as La Femme Nikita, Barnaby Jones and Brothers and Sisters. On this day in 2019 Doris Day, one of the few remaining iconic big stars from the golden age of Hollywood died at the grand old age of 97.

1 pointOn this day in 1994 the leader of the official opposition party the Labour Party in the UK John Smith , died suddenly aged 55. His unexpected death from a heart attack paved the way for the future Prime minister Tony Blair to be elected leader of the Labour Party . There has been much debate, speculation and discussion among commentators, political anoraks and the like about whether Labour would still have won such a big landslide in 1997 if John Smith hadn't died or if they had of won at all. His sad death really changed politics in the UK many would argue.

0 pointsAdreian Payne, a former Michigan State Univ (same school as Magic Johnson, the namesake of the thread) basketball standout and NBA player, has died in a shooting. He was 31. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a shooting at 1:34 a.m. Monday when Payne was identified and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Lawrence Dority, 29, was present at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant after homicide detectives interviewed him. Payne played in 107 NBA games, averaging four points and three rebounds, over four seasons with Atlanta, Minnesota and Orlando. The Hawks drafted him No. 15 overall in 2014, traded him to the Timberwolves, and he averaged 6.7 points and 5.1 rebounds as a potentially promising rookie. SC
