4 pointsWhat do we actually, collectively, like about 90s music? In the later rounds it was apparent that fans of heavily-produced Max Martin bops didn't align with fans of Big Beat and sweaty raves. That's all in the span of 2-3 years. All 80s hits had a sort of unifying theme. 1990 and 1999 are not recognisable as the same decade.

2 pointsBenito Mussolini died on this day 78 years ago, aged 61. (this goofy expression is cropped from one of his speeches) - Early on, Mussolini was a socialist (like his father); he eventually turned to nationalism, which laid the groundwork for his fascist ideology. - Mussolini (like many dictators) was known for his charisma that convinced people to follow his ideas. In 1922, 30,000 of them (called "Blackshirts") descended upon Rome after Mussolini threatened king Victor Emmanuel to give him control of the government- the king catered to his demands. - Mussolini was an atheist who converted to Catholicism due to needing the Vatican as an ally. - Mussolini brought Italy into World War II in June of 1940, allying with Nazi Germany against Britain and France. Mussolini would order the invasion of British Egypt (through Italian Libya), and he would also invade many of the Balkan countries. - Within Italy, supporters of the king and Mussolini would end up fighting each other, which led to a civil war in 1943. - Once Allied troops entered Italy from the north, Mussolini and his wife attempted to escape to neutral Switzerland, where they would then fly to Francoist Spain. They would soon be captured by partisans. They would be shot dead by the partisans the following day, and their bodies would be taken to Milan, where they would be hung by their ankles (in order to get the fascists to stop fighting the civil war). - In 2019, actor Jim Carrey painted a picture of Mussolini's corpse, leading to his granddaughter Alessandra (currently a member of the European Parliament) to have this reaction: - Mussolini's great-grandson (Alessandra's son) Romano currently plays for Lazio FC, and has been given the nickname "Mussolini Jr."

1 pointJust skimmed through IMDb, the only other name I recognised who's gone was Kit Hesketh-Harvey. There's one or two whose careers haven't lasted but that's a different discussion.

1 pointOne of the best shows ever, that's where. Big fan of "Ever been to Dallas? It's where we shoot our Presidents" and "he died peacefully in his sleep, of bullet wounds" too.

1 pointI've honestly never heard of this man. However, this time, even my own family are giving me abuse for my ignorance and not only that, but @Paul Bearer knows who he is as well. Obviously life is passing me by, but I can't believe the rest of humanity seems to watch Come Dancing now.

1 pointHe seems to laugh it off to be fair. He said it happened a lot at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool last year when many locals thought he was Mick Lynch! He has also praised Mick Lynch as good in interviews.

1 pointI was listening to one of Iain Dale's political podcasts earlier and he revealed that someone asked him on a London train to pose for a selfie with them, after initially mistaking him for rail union boss Mick Lynch!, and while chatting with the guy he revealed to Iain that only a matter of days earlier he had met Liz Truss too and asked the previously normally selfie addicted Liz Truss to pose with him for a selfie after having a chat with her and she flatly refuse and nearly ran a mile kind of thing! Liz Truss now refuses to pose for selfies presumably fearing a backlash. What a turnaround.

1 pointGerman publicist Udo Ulfkotte dies completely unexpected at 56 of a heart attack: http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/literatur/udo-ulfkotte-umstrittener-publizist-und-ehemaliger-faz-journalist-ist-tot-a-1130008.html He had turned into the public face of the German right-wing populist anti-establishment movement by writing books against the mainstream press landscape. The german term used by our right-wing populists was "Lügenpresse" (the press of lies). His death will lead to a thousand conspiracy theories. In fact, it reminds me of the death of Andrew Breitbart in the US.
