4 pointsTo be clear when entries "open" - we even specify the time zone: 3 - Entries open at 9-00am BST on 31st May and close at midnight on 31 May. Entry can only be made by posting the name of a candidate on the MMMDP thread on the Deathlist. 4 – The competition is deemed to be open at 00-00-01 (i.e. the first second of the day) BST hrs on 1 June 2023. Just an idea, like, SC - how about you set up a Pyrrhic Victory dead pool where the real winners aren't those with the winning scores?

2 points20 years ago when my grandpa visited my family was living in Massachusetts at the time, he refused hey wheelchair and while waiting for my parents to pick him up, ended up catching up to a news crew that was reporting on the local weather conditions. He turned what was supposed to be a 5-second soundbite into a 20 minute long interview which contained comments disparaging Boston sports teams, the airport, local transportation, what he perceived as rude Americans, and many more topics that allegedly made him a legend in that newsroom as we only found out years later. Apparently at least eight people wrote into the station saying they should have kept him on for longer than 20 minutes because he was more entertaining than the newscast was informative...

2 pointsHank Ketcham died on this day 22 years ago, aged 81. - Before he was a comic artist, Ketcham was an animator for several early Disney films, such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi. - During World War II, Ketcham became the head writer for the Mr. Hook propaganda cartoons urging people to buy war bonds: - In 1950, Ketcham's wife complained to him that their four-year-old son Dennis made a mess of his bedroom, calling him a 'menace'. This gave Ketcham an idea for a comic, and on March 12, 1951, the first Dennis the Menace strip was published: (this panel was from October of that year) In an astonishing coincidence, another comic made its debut on the same day with the same exact name- it was technically published first if time zones are taken into account. Due to the popularity of the American strip, this version is now often referred to as Dennis and Gnasher: Both comics run to this day and have had animated series based on them (American version 1986, British 1996 and again in 2009). - Ketcham retired from drawing Dennis the Menace comics in 1994 and his assistants took over production of it. He then took up oil and watercolor painting, and several of them are on display at the hospital near where he lived. - Ketcham's death was overshadowed by the Nepalese royal massacre occurring on the same day that he died.

1 pointSo, seeing Ed Ames (Daniel Boone) announced dead I did some random searching for the musical turn from The Virginian western series - Randy Boone, aka actor Randy Benton - still alive at 83 (y'know, the age at which Tina Turner just died). Likely obitable in those pools that accept the likes of Variety as a source, maybe even UK broadsheet obitable on a slow day.

1 pointDeath certificate shows he died on 10 May. Must have been one of the most-delayed deaths ever reported on this site, especially for one of the 50. Presumably cremation has taken place by now.

1 pointThey usually do (correspond), but Sakamoto's didn't. His death wasn't announced until April 2nd but the front page shows 28 March (the day he actually died) as its date of death.

1 pointMy childhood remains unruined, as I much preferred Stay Tooned! with Tony Robinson to Rolf's Cartoon Club when it came to Sunday afternoon filler.

1 pointDid they ever find out the Origins of this growth? I wouldn't get too worked up over this. An actor often seen in close ups has a basal cell carconoma removed. His life wasn't remotely in danger and some people live with those little growths for years. He's rich and his face is his fortune, and the attendant publicity gets him in the public eye with something approaching a proper story whilst he's promoting a film. I just thought it worth mentioning as it's the 2nd time he's had a cancerous growth removed.
