Joey Russ 7,267 Posted January 1, 2021 As usual, I’m sure there are many names we all considered for the DDP that for whatever reason we end up axing them in the end. So who is in your salvage lot this year? Will reveal mine after I reveal my main DDP team tomorrow (not New Years Day yet here at the time of this post)
Youth in Asia 1,088 Posted January 1, 2021 Tommy Docherty was one for me (luckily). Hamish Barbour was another. Larry King. Leon Spinks. Billy Connoly. I just don't believe they will die in 2021.
Perhaps 1,439 Posted January 1, 2021 David Byrd - in ICU with COVID, I didn't want to risk him recovering and having an annoyingly healthy person on my team all year. Tom Weiskopf - was tempting to include him but I figured it may been a fraction too early. Could easily die later in the year if treatment isn't effective. Rush Limbaugh - a bit of a stupid for me to leave him off, for some reason I thought he was turning 80 this year instead of 70. Greg Gilbert - seems a little bit too stable for me to include him for now. Could easily have a quick downturn at any point though. He's on year 5 with stage 4 iirc? Alan Dean Foster - wasn't satisfied with the little information around his cancer diagnosis. Jim Hagedorn - read the news he had 90% of his cancer removed (+ a kidney) a couple of days before I submitted, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean he's out of the woods. gcreptile 11,086 Posted January 1, 2021 For now, I will only have one regret: Floyd Little didn't die, so I am stuck with him instead of my first sub Gerd Müller, who I actually wanted to pick more. More later.
Spade_Cooley 9,638 Posted January 1, 2021 Tahir Mughal - Couldn't work out how important a cricketer he was. The fact that his Wikipedia profile isn't formatted properly was what made me think he's not going to QO. Biz Markie - Really, really wanted to pick him on the "any legendary rapper that announces health issues dies from them" principle (Guru, Nate Dogg). Just couldn't find any space for him. Nigel Oakes - Cambridge Analytica figure. Guaranteed QO. I found one reference to him having terminal cancer in the middle of a completely unrelated article and nothing else. Could have been an amazing tip or just a misunderstanding. Snowy Dyson - Fascinating pick, former UK #1 ranked disabled darts player, was experimented on as a schoolchild with sedatives in a mild scandal and a former bodyguard for Kylie Minogue. It was either him or Zoe Davison and I just felt she was a guaranteed 100% death, knocking him out of the running. Carla Campbell - Bounty hunter focus of the documentary series Love Fraud. Definitely dying, but her show wasn't a massive hit and I think that will stop her getting any Daily Mail coverage. Of course if TMZ write it up the Mail will copy... Lieutenant Colonel David Price - former director of music for the Scots Guards. I was ecstatic when I found this name, but then I looked into it and found out that the last two directors of music for the Scots Guards who died didn't get QOs. Weird. Antonio Inoki - Another "really wanted to pick him" name, but couldn't find the space. Will be this year's Kenny Rogers for me I'm sure.
msc 18,557 Posted January 1, 2021 Hannah Wants/Shannen Doherty - Decided to go for one relapse stage iv breast cancer case only. Feel like both could be big decision names this year though. Rob Burrow - I think he's got the faster MND type going on prognosis and deteroiration but that should take him to 2022 just. Sunday Burquest - Felt they were a bit too fringey for a DDP co-host to pick. Justin Yerbury - A victim of my caution against ALS picks this year. Brush with covid, maybe unique, he'll be my major groan if wrong. Tracy Emin - Despite remission, all of my gut feelings tell me she is fucked. And yet, I didn't listen to them. Caitlin Flanagan - From a recent podcast, seems to have her cancer under control just now. Rev Peter Hancock - Another pick I wanted to use, but he's currently in for extensive stem cell treatment and in covid they surely woudn't book that if he was in serious danger... gcreptile 11,086 Posted January 1, 2021 Okay, some more... Well, I not only had Gerd Müller as first sub, but then Carlos Menem and Paul Westphal as 2nd and 3rd sub. But none of the really low-hanging fruit on my main team, esp. Floyd Little and Lee Noble, went out too soon. So I don't have these names in any team. Both pretty much guaranteed points imo, but I just didn't want to come into a situation where I have the same people in 2 different teams. A couple of ALS names didn't make it: OJ Brigance might have had some deterioration recently. And considering how advanced the illness already is, that might just be the final chapter. Rob Burrow is a sub for the 2nd team. I agree with msc, that his case is a fast one. He does remind me of David Hagen... but the one of 2019, not 2020...so, one to remember. Who I didn't pick at all, and it might come to bite me in the ass: Yoo Sang-Chul, I think he might actually be in something of a remission. It's probably not going to last. But I am happy with just waiting and seeing. Sarah Harding, Linda Nolan: Not feeling either of them. Sarah Harding has a book out. Linda is milking her disease for the camera. Now, I do think both are actually ill. But until I hear something like "treatment has failed", or something, I take a pass. Scott Dureau: Seems to be a team coach for his team now, there seems to be no danger Gavin Robertson, Jana Bennett: Still unsure whether Gavin Robertson actually has glioblastoma. One source mentioned it, but a recent article, in November I think, actually said he was in remission. Jana Bennett, another glio case, Didn't have space for her. could be a Susan Bayh, who is 3rd sub for my 3rd team. Hannah Wants: Too soon, imo - but I ight be wrong. Miguel Van Damme: I only saw the January news of the leukemia return, not the later news that the treatment had failed. Still a risky obit, but you can't win without at least a bit of risk. Shintaro Ishihara: The "Japanese Jean-Marie Le Pen": Has pancreatic cancer, but a late search said it was at an early stage. Well, that's it basically. Many of the fringey / very risky picks made my B-team. I kind of used it as a dump for some personal favourites, and picks I didn't allow myself to have in the main team as a co-host, especially Sarah Ezekiel, John Dabell and Edward Denmark. CaptainChorizo 1,991 Posted January 1, 2021 last 10 out Lee Noble-Has a complete absense from any media or social media I coud find besides one tweet .Think he is probably toast but just went with my gut in taking some names over him in the end Gerd Muller- A lot ot last days alzheimers type somehow can stretch it out a year or two. Think he is more likely then not to die this year, but at his point total decided to go with younger non drop 40 toss up's. Shannon Doherty-Heard about her trying some experimental stuff, think she might be farther along in her cancer then some think. Couldn't quit pull the trigger Yoko Ono-Since everyone her age is in lockdown hard to know exactly how *ucked she is. Ady Barkan/Stacy Title-Have dubious luck with ALS picks, guranteed they would see 2022 if I picked them Bobby Fulton- Seems fecked but his tag team partner didn't get a UK Obit a few years ago so way high obit risk. Never in WWE ,and his peak in WCW/NWA came 2 years before WCW showed up on British Tv. Sir Michael Cullen/Frank Williams/Bill Freehan-Similiar to Gerd Muller but need way more certainly at their age with most likely scenario of non unique/non drop 40 Looks though like I had big underestimation of Muller and Williams, they seem like realistic drop 40 contenders. Captain Hemlock 750 Posted January 1, 2021 Mark Delsaulnier-California congressman who was in bad shape early in 2020. He recovered nicely and didn't consider him after that. Arlo Guthrie-Musician who had a mild stroke and has retired from performing. I played him in another deadpool Trey Mancini-MLB Player-His cancer was early stage and he's talking about resuming his playing career. Emily Sears-Model who had brain surgery. She seems to have recovered well. Nichelle Nichols-Star Trek actress-she's always a late drop due to conflicting reports on her health Sarah Harding-Girls Aloud singer-She seems more like a 2022 pick Al Roker-TV personality/weatherman-Cancer seems to be early stage. He's still on American TV might reconsider for 2022
YoungWillz 21,245 Posted January 1, 2021 Ones I'm probably going to regret leaving off my TOTP team but making the subs bench are Vivian Campbell (Dio/Whitesnake/Def Leppard) and Bobby Kimball (Toto).
Charles De Gaulle 487 Posted January 1, 2021 Iain Anderson- Forgot about him while writing up my lists. Bobby Charlton and Jake the Snake- I think they are better for next year. Leslie Phelps- Everyone has been saying that he could die any minute since 2014. Harry Reid- Got bored with him. Norman Lloyd and Beverly Clearly- At this point they are just famous for being old. Greg Gilbert- I thought he died ages ago.
Toast 16,240 Posted January 1, 2021 I meant to restore Greg Gilbert to the team, but forgot.

Joey Russ 7,267 Posted January 1, 2021 Right, here were some names I considered during the last week of the year: Yoko Ono - Her situation seems very dire, but just wasn’t sure if she would drop 40, and I already have enough low pointers as it stands Michael Caputo - From what I can tell his cancer spread was more localized. Definitely would be a hit to celebrate, but I’ve taken the punt that he sees another year Yoo Sang-chul - Yes, I saw that his cancer was nearly gone as well, and while pancreatic cancer usually does come back, I think he’ll follow a more similar route to Pat Smullen which takes him to 2022 Pat Martino - Had him considered for my team a long time, I think he does have a better chance for a QO than many do (also got a Guardian article in the past), but backed out of him the last few weeks Ron Wright: Think his cancer might be worse than he’s letting on, but he seemed to have bounced back a bit after his health scare Necro Butcher: Looks absolutely terrible, but iirc only Stage 3 cancer rather than stage 4, so I’ve taken the punt he sees another year (although his death would not shock at all) Lee Noble: Last time I thought sure obit but not sure death. This time I thought sure death but not sure obit. Honestly is someone who might’ve died off the radar, and as such felt too risky Jungle Grrrl: Thought about picking her as a way to test how far the metro QO goes for wrestler after the stunning Karsten Beck QO, but I’m not sure if woman wrestlers have the same clickbaityness Jana Bennett: Probably the name I ultimately got bored with the most, and only 8 points too. So will probably score for those of you who picked her Susan Bayh: I think she’s more long term now, given she’s already lasted two and a half years with glio, who says she can’t last another 3 years? That, and with Mike Pence no longer VP her QO chances might dip somewhat Jessie Colter: The most recent update makes him seem like a goner, but from what I can tell, it’s such a crapshoot on whether lesser known porn stars get a QO, and the gay porn stars seem even riskier Josh Evans: Football player who played with the Tennessee Titans, also had an appearance in the super bowl as well. That said, I’m still not sure he gets a QO and he has kidney cancer anyways so probably sees another year Hannah Wants: She seems to be going the alternative treatment route, although she’s also taking radiotherapy as well. Wouldn’t shock either way Neale Daniher: Saw that he was receiving some award last month, couldn’t decipher if he was truly on his way out or if it’s just that, an award Never seriously considered Sarah Harding or Shannen Doherty. They felt like this year’s ONJ and Linda Nolan (although the latter is in a much more dire situation now).
drol 12,151 Posted January 1, 2021 I regret not picking Jana Bennett and Lee Noble. I think Doherty will survive this year.
Death Impends 8,045 Posted January 1, 2021 SUBS Susan Bayh - Bored of her at this point. Her 2021 fate is sealed Jana Bennett - Once again falls victim to there only being 20 slots George Alagiah - Every year, he seems to get some bad midyear news that makes me sure I'll pick him, and each time I get closer and closer to doing so, but then he becomes too stable again and I backtrack Others: Rachel Zoll - See Bayh Lars Hogh - Seems okay for now, and there are enough "okay now, will downturn again, but what year?" picks that are more lucrative than him Bruno Latour - Had the makings of an interesting, classy pick, but something felt off to me about only one mention of his illness in a Dutch paper, given he seems quite notable Paul Westphal, Alan Dean Foster - Other 7 pointers I couldn't find room for Stacy Title - Still wary of doubling up on ALS picks
Spade_Cooley 9,638 Posted January 1, 2021 I found another reference to Latour having cancer in Le Monde, but the way it was phrased makes me think it was caught very early.

Joey Russ 7,267 Posted January 1, 2021 Basically my skepticism was his last QO mention was almost 2 years ago, although I definitely could’ve called that Noble play wrong.
Etushispushingupdaisies 136 Posted January 1, 2021 Tom Weiskopf - He has only made it to the Death By Numbers. Floyd Little - Too much of a risky pick. I feared he wouldn't make it to the starting line, so I didn't pick him. Necro Butcher - I totally forgot about him.

CaptainChorizo 1,991 Posted January 2, 2021 10 hours ago, Joey Russ said: Jungle Grrrl: Thought about picking her as a way to test how far the metro QO goes for wrestler after the stunning Karsten Beck QO, but I’m not sure if woman wrestlers have the same clickbaityness The thing about Karsten Beck is the company he was the champ for in Germany(WXW) has stealthily become maybe the biggest European Federation and many of their top stars have gone on be champs in WWE. The company JungleGrrl works for (WOW) is such a minor indy promotion and wouldn't even make the top 10 of Womens Promotions. If she get's a QO,then I guess it opens up the floodgates to a ton of obscure indy/state federations
Salmon Mousse 473 Posted January 2, 2021 Made an ordered list of 50 names to be used for DDP and DbN, with the top 20 on the list going to DDP. Michael McKevitt and Paul Westphal were names 25 and 26 on the page....
