MrSpud42 30 Posted January 1, 2022 I had to check! I thought he had joined he great soap opera in the sky years ago. Though that's more due to the fact I don't watch any of them.

tomarse 84 Posted January 1, 2022 For some reason thought he was dead years ago. The first character you saw in Eastenders iirc?

He's Arthur Fowler, the first real big sympathetic star of Eastenders (Dirty Den was a star too but more of a villain) from the start until they bumped his character off in a ratings grab in 1996 which was massively controversial at the time. Treacher can also be spotted in most of the 70s TV classics and some films but is now wheelchair bound and retired due to ataxia.

Bill quit in 1995 and they decided it wouldn’t make sense for Arthur to simply divorce Pauline and leave. All his exit scenes were filmed 6 months before they aired as Arthur was absent for several months while in prison and brief final return on screen was filmed long in advance. Might end up being June Brown going first surely her lungs won’t be able to stand much more though they have lasted this long so who knows? Will be interesting to see how she looks when she picks up her OBE from the palace see if there is any noticeable decline as she has been out of spotlight for some time now. Through Treacher has a long term condition while Fenton looked pretty well only three years ago when he filmed his last scenes as Dr Legg.
