Ulitzer95 12,845 Posted August 8, 2023 New Jersey media outlet Thirteen PBS seem to have jumped the gun earlier today and accidentally announced DJ Casper had died. As many of you know, he's long been a popular pick on DL across various pools after being diagnosed with both kidney and neuroendocrine cancers in 2016. In 2018, he announced that he had been spared by the mercy of God and that he was a changed man etc. etc. but apparently not... A quick look on Facebook reveals several posts from family and friends, requesting prayers, claiming he's "gravely ill" and in his last days. Here, here, and here. If true, a sad DDP miss as he isn't picked. I believe I'm right in saying last picked in 2020? No doubt someone will moan but I think he's big enough to merit his own thread. Plus 1) he doesn't really fit nicely into any others and 2) I never create any bloody threads round here so lay off the hate

gcreptile 11,074 Posted August 8, 2023 It was stage 4 cancer back then. It never really goes away. But to pick him this year would have been divine inspiration.

jd24fan 78 Posted August 8, 2023 What a shock to me. If you've been at any dance or wedding for over the past 20 years, you've no doubt heard the Cha Cha Slide numerous times. I knew he was sick, but didn't know he was that sick. In an interview in May, Casper when discussing his battle said that if "you're struggling with cancer, keep on doing the Cha Cha Slide. I had no idea he was 58. May he R.I.P.
harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,704 Posted August 8, 2023 At the risk of sounding like Paul Bearer’s uncool brother, I genuinely had not heard of the chap, the song or the dance. I was probably asleep through all of 2004 and I’ve not been to a wedding, or indeed a function, since long before that. 1

Perhaps 1,429 Posted August 8, 2023 And I'm sure that if younger members enjoyed announcing they had no idea who celebrities are as much as older members, the threads of Georgie Fame and Alan Price would be several pages long.

Sly Ronnie 916 Posted August 8, 2023 It was 2004, there were probably 40+ number 1s then. Unlike now in which Ladbaby is followed by Drake and then by Ed Sheeran, then by Harry Styles, then by Ladbaby again.
