I started taking Chinese classes earlier in the year, so Zhou Yougang is probably the only supercentenarian whose work has actually affected me in some way. Pinyin is so incredibly useful and well done that it makes learning the language so much easier and fun.

Her notability is 99.9% longevity-related. She didn't have an es.wikipedia page until she turned 110.

Based on appearance alone, one of the healthiest-looking 88-year-old men going. If he has dementia or something as you're implying, he's probably following the Prunella Scales timeline. Maybe he's a bit deaf. 50 years of gigs will do that to unprotected ears.

Honestly, it's lazy picking. There should be a rule that a maximum of 25 picks can be 90+, and at least 3 need to be under 70. It would make things more interesting than just a bunch of random extremely old celebrities.

 

Some people are saying it's bad luck that there have only been 3 hits - and this is true to an extent (certain people are lingering on, when I didn't think they'd make it past January), but I can think of a couple of people that were omitted that were obvious picks, but they weren't old so weren't considered.
