Death Impends 8,043 Posted December 6 Oh yeah, this has been such a limp deadpooling year that this annual tradition hasn't been set up. Here it is. So how is it? Do you have an off-forum QO lock with end-stage pancan you're anxiously hoping has a few more weeks in the tank? Or will you have to break glass in case of deadpooling emergency, said glass encasing Dr. NakaMats? I haven't put in depth thought into my team, there's probably going to be a higher proportion of "just old" names than ever.
YoungWillz 21,184 Posted December 6 This will be my 10th anniversary year of having three teams. Yay for me, or summat. I've tried everything DI. There's been the popular choices. There's been the old choices. There's been the ill choices. There's been the "can I get an entirely unique team?" choices. While this year and 2018 rewarded me a bit, not even close to top thirty. I despair, curse and thrash about in my bed at night. It's fun though, and I guess that's the way (uh huh uh huh) I like it. Could we achieve a deluge of hits in 2025? Who will be the unexpected, out of the blue, Liam Payne-esque type hit next year? Who knows? Who cares? (I do a little bit). I have a suppurating blancmange of possibles. No-one, I expect, may be unique, except in my TOTP theme team. *goes off to see how Berry Gordy Jr is holding up*.
livingbygrace 419 Posted December 6 For my shadow list I have between 5-10 people I would love to have on my team yet, but there is no room. I have already taken 16 people off my 2024 for those that I felt were absolute must for me to have, and about 5 of them I am cringing a little not confident that they are not going to end up being misses for me. Hats off to all you that were able to make it into the teens and 20s with your hits for 2024. You might be having an easier time than myself at this point. I have not yet dipped my toes in trying the big DDP pool and having 3 teams. I am not sure why but it feels overwhelming to me to fill out the spread sheet, and it feels like a whole different world over there for some reason.
gcreptile 11,061 Posted December 6 My research does not yield a lot of "cult picks, will be on 4-5 teams" names. Though I have to face it, my DDP form this year was already bad. I can't find enough half-decent names for a third team either. And I am getting very tired of MTT, NSS, SMcM, etc...
Commtech Sio Bibble 2,102 Posted December 6 I always like to get my entry in early and therefore submitted my teams yesterday, my main team has 4 hopeful uniques and whittling it down wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

LWCZ 218 Posted December 6 I've had a draft for my shadowlist since July, so I expected few people to pass before 2025 (although 10 drops seem enough already, with the last three dropping in the span of three days in November ). I still think I'll have some more room before Christmas, but I'd rather finalise it asap, as I'm too concerned with my master's thesis at the moment, but hey, it is what it is . I also wanna try DDP next year, as the last time I played I...well it did not go that well. Working on a music theme, but it would be an understatement to say I'm not struggling with guessing which US musician would get a UK obit or not (looking at you, Tommy Sands and Sam the Sham). I find your teams and you very interesting and worthwhile!
Spade_Cooley 9,626 Posted December 7 I think my prediction that 2024 would be won by whoever picked the right long-term "definitely dying of cancer this year" names from the likes of Doherty, Nolan and Whale (Shazza looking like the deciding hit as things stand) has borne out. My guess is that 2025 will go the opposite direction - with a lack of big, on-the-clock names out there, and all the second-tier picks already discussed on here, the title will probably go to whoever is brave enough to go for a unique QO punt or two. I'm going for more than a unique QO punt or two-Im aiming for 60 in the DDP! It's just the part were they die that I'm struggling to get right. 1

time 8,676 Posted December 7 My 2025 short-list looks a lot like my 2024 entry list. I do have 10 new names I'm considering, the question being do I take out existing names from time's-up or do I abandon my bell-ends (making up a new team with the 10 most likely to die in 2025)? ladyfiona 2,653 Posted December 7 I have a lot of 80 and 90 year olds from this year's shortlist i'm thinking of removing in favour of some younger picks. Mainly so I get more points in certain deadpools. Though certain notables are staying put.
JQW 288 Posted December 7 I've cut my DDP shortlist down to about 40 entries, not counting those on my current list that I'll carry over. One selection I may add is for someone who may be taking up a dangerous hobby next year. They dabbled with it briefly in the past, but as their circumstances have since changed, they now have more time free to dedicate to it. They've passed on some cryptic comments in one interview which could be construed to relate to this new hobby, but it may relate to something else they've got planned for next year. If I play them and it doesn't go ahead, then it's a wasted pick. Another pick is of someone who looked absolutely terrible in a photo taken at an event earlier this year - but they seemed fine in the official photo that emerged from the same session. I've not come across any more recent photos at all. They've not been mentioned here at all. A couple of other picks may have already passed on - I'm waiting on some end-of-year obituary lists to appear.
The Immortal 642 Posted December 8 I'm not in the DDP and Death By Numbers is my main pool. Like usual I will vaguely hint 5 names I've put in with a description. 90 something British author mostly known for writing fiction. Old Italian businessman who recently stepped down from his company. Singer from a very well known 90's British rock band. An American centenarian who has quite the track record when it comes to surviving, and will continue to be personal repeat pick until he dies. Somewhat known American businessman who turns 100 in 2025.
Summer in Transylvania 2,208 Posted December 8 I'm considering debuting in the DDP this year. As for my personal list, there are a few names I would like to add, but not enough space. Those that I have included, however, are people I wouldn't want to drop. In a similar vein to the post above, my five top-ranked debutants, as it currently stands, are: 1. A very much ailing politician who almost made it on my 2024 draft, but who I removed last-minute due to the fact that they could go on forever or peg it today. So far, that's a decision that has paid off, but for how much longer? 2. An almost certainty for 2025 DL and Drop 40 with terminal cancer. 3. Another cancer sufferer, someone who is on the current list, and who I wouldn't recommend dropping going forward. 4. A renowned British sportsman in failing health. Very much a gamble as a pick, but I can always drop him next year if he recovers, right now it would be too risky. 5. A very famous name with, um, cancer, who might survive but would be an embarrassing miss.
Miranda lass 105 Posted December 8 Did mine months ago with the issue people can and have died before the new year starts! Literally looked up a ton of names born in 1925 or 1937 etc but many were people I wasn't even familiar with

gcreptile 11,061 Posted December 10 So I did find a name this morning who might replace Jody Gormley on my main team - though the person is not joker-worthy. They would be, I guess, if they were unique, and they will almost be. But I suspect they're going to be on a team that I have shared non-obiting and non-dying names before as well. YoungWillz 21,184 Posted Saturday at 11:42 Right, my DDP teams are prepared. I won't submit them for a week or so, because an hour is a long time in deadpooling! Don't get too excited. I'm not. I expect a fair old slaughter next year - on which I will probably miss out - but at the end of 2025, I will be comfortable with those I have saved!

OK, bell-ends have been ditched in their entirety, my one faller from times-up has been replaced, and I've got 20 new names (for me) for a new times-2 team, who no doubt will all still be standing by the end of the year while half the bell-ends will be dust. Rons carry on for another year!
Perhaps 1,429 Posted Saturday at 16:22 I've become very dissociated with deadpooling this year due to the way deadpool relevant deaths have fallen throughout the year. The weeks of nothing happening have lead me to become bored with keeping up with it all. Considering I've been in the Top 5 on the DDP for most of the year, you'd think I'd be working overtime to create the most dying, unique team the world has ever seen... I just haven't had the time to sought those hidden gems this year. So if there's a terminally ill 22 year-old softball champion hidden away on Google they won't be on my team! I will be participating again nonetheless.
Sod's Law 471 Posted Saturday at 21:38 First time playing this year, and this year has been so uneventful for me that I lost track of half of the deadpools I'm entered in and who I selected last year. Going to try again this year but it's harder than I expected.
