Youth in Asia 1,086 Posted September 19, 2023 Does a hospice stop being a hospice if people are surviving too long, and just become a nursing home? I wonder if they have targets for length of stay. Is there some guy sleeping on the sofa because Carter is still in his bed?

Hospice care is not just hospitalizatioin. Hospice care are nurses coming to your home to keep tabs on you and make sure your meds are right and to make sure you are comfortable. A lot of time, Hospice Care is for the Family. As in my case with my sister, I was awaiting the Hospice crew every day so I knew that I was doing the job correctly. I am sure no one is waiting for a bed.
Sean 6,311 Posted September 19, 2023 Yeah he is at home.Longest I have known anyone be on hospice care is 20 months and they only died because they contracted the Norovirus not because of their terminal illness per say. I doubt he is on a hospice program that provides general palliative services at home.More likely he has his own private nurses and Doctors. These probably even cared for him and Rosalyn before he was put under hospice care.

Here's the key takeaway from the article: Quote “He wants to reach 99, I know that,” [his niece] said. “The last month has been different for him,” she added, but “I am just praying every day that he makes it to 99.”
JustPassingThrough 148 Posted September 21, 2023 Can't remember if this was previously reported, but the article also says that there was no specific incident/illness that led to him starting hospice care: Quote Mr. Carter was not suffering any particular ailment that prompted him to enter hospice care last February, according to people close to him, but was tired of being in and out of the hospital and wanted to spend his final days at home with Mrs. Carter.
dimreaper 695 Posted September 21, 2023 https://www.cartercenter.org/news/pr/2023/jimmy-carter-99.html If they're announcing events for his birthday on Oct. 1, his situation probably isn't as dire as his grandson has made it out to be. I say he'll go between mid October and the end of December.

To me, it was reminiscent of Prince Philip's last appearance in his escort car following his release from the hospital just three weeks before his death.

Yes but the simple fact that he’s still able to take a car at 8 months on hospice care prove that his death is not imminent. He’s not bedriden for example. Prince Philip was discharged from hospital it’s another case. Here he’s still at home and clearly really week but it doesn’t mean death at all cost. He’ll see his birthday, maybe even 2024 but I doubt it (and if he does, please, put him at nº1, we do not care about this healthy DVD). or maybe this trip will have exhausted him and he’ll die tomorrow, who knows at this point with him

Based off what i've heard, I'd give him anywhere from 2 weeks to 10 weeks. Can't see him making it into next year.
