Probably posting an obscure and - apparently - living pop star whose just raised his profile to the point q/os might be a thing as and when. Mark Eric (real name Mark Malmborg) made one album in the late 60s that's become cultish to the point of just getting its third 21st century reissue and it's getting airplay already on the back of this year's vinyl release. He made other stuff but this album is the metaphorical money-shot, backed by members of the famous Wrecking Crew and accurately described IMHO as sounding like what a Brian Wilson solo set would have sounded like in 1969. Yer man had a lengthy acting career appearing all over the place in television of the 70s and beyond and, appears to be still alive.

Just saw a FB post from someone involved in making radio shows of eccentric stuff etc. that he'd spent an hour on the phone with Jess Conrad. So, despite his approaching 88th birthday seems Jess remains fairly chipper, then!

Somehow it passed me by, but I’ll investigate on YT, sounds up my street. However, it seems like he died in 2009. https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/audio-autopsy-1969-mark-eric-and

Edit: it's a very sweet pastiche of Pet Sounds/Sagittarius/Millennium, but as with a lot of 'lost classics' there's probably a reason it never made it - not quite as good as it could be. I'd put the Terry Nicholls and Jim Sullivan albums in that category. But I was always mystified by the commercial failures of Gene Clark, Nick Drake and Emitt Rhodes, so there are exceptions that 'prove' my rule. Pop success is definitely a funny old game. I guess Mark Eric missed the sunshine hippie zeitgeist by a couple of years. From 67 to 69 was an aeon in pop terms.

Talking of obscure albums with Wrecking Crew participation, I have a soft spot for Shaun Harris's (only) S/T effort. Lyrically suicide-inspired soft rock, yowza!

Um, can someone move this post to the Steve Hoffman forum please?

Good spot, I'm assuming Cherry Red must know that, not sure why they've left it off the page about the reissue

Don't know how newsworthy this is, but it popped up on my FB so thought I'd post it. Surprised there isn't a general Queen thread yet, and he does have his own thread, but seems it's likely to fit better here as seems to be where most (sporadic) updates come. Anyway, John Deacon is described as 'fragile' by Roger Taylor, who says they haven't spoken in nearly 20 years. I knew he was reclusive, so don't know how much more 'fragile' he is. Sad how much Freddie's death seems to have affected him.

This makes him the second member of X Japan to have hung himself in just over a decade. Still never listened to a note of their music, but I think they were like "the band" for Japs in the 90s.

Times obit for John "Jelly" Horton, aged 77, saxophonist who was a member of 60s psychedelic pop band The End (wiki).

Band supported the Rolling Stones but never made it big, Horton quit, then went on to have a successful career as an advertising guru in the 70s.
