Ammon Tharp, lead vocalist and drummer of Bill Deal and the Rhondels from 1959-1977, has died aged 75. The band had 3 hits in the US Billboard Hot 100, including May I (#39 - 1968), I've Been Hurt (#35 - 1969) and What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am) (#23 - 1969).

Greg Gilbert and a new update about cancer.

From his Instagram, he says the results are a bit better than what his oncologist was expecting, but says some of the nodules in his chest have grown back, which means more chemo.

Quote

Scan results day was never going to be easy, particularly after a 3-month break in treatment. Whilst the results are fractionally better than my oncologist had predicted, some of the nodules in my chest have grown back which means another bout of chemo. This isn't surprising but is massively daunting, especially as this chemo will affect the sensation in my hands, something that if taken far enough might not be reversible. I may well have another 3-month break before starting this treatment and I intend to draw and paint every spare moment (a spare moment being time not spent with my magical family). What a joy it is to be able to express oneself creatively - drawing has been such a help to me throughout this and it's suddenly become more precious than ever. P. s. I wanted to apologise if I've been flaky responding to people of late, it's been a massively difficult time mentally. Lovelovelove to you all xxxxx

For a picture, he posted a picture of himself and he doesn't look too bad, but it's just a headshot so it's kinda hard to tell.

What I find pretty strange in his post is that he appears to be much more worried about the "irreversible" side effects of the chemo than the cancer recurrence. Yeah, permanently losing sensation in one's hand sounds pretty bad, but he might soon lose his life as well, which to me would seem to be a bigger problem.

I think his art has been a refuge to him, he can lose himself in his drawing and escape from the cancer worries.  I can quite understand the fear that this might be taken from him.  Have you seen his drawings?  The guy has enormous talent and imagination.

Sounds like someone could have used a Magic Man.

Carol Peters, Heart's longtime manager, died from cancer Sept. 18. She was 72.

Looks like Marilyn Manson was also almost a victim of gun violence.

Mitch Aliotta of Rotary Connection (which included a pre-fame Minnie Riperton), and Aliotta-Haynes-Jeremiah, 70. http://www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm

Here's the quote for posterity: "According to his daughter, Mitch Aliotta-- bassist with Rotary Connection and Aliota, Haynes & Jeremiah-- died Tuesday (July 21) at the age of 70. Though Rotary Connection only charted with "Want You To Know" (#96) in 1970, they are remembered for launching Minnie Riperton's career. And Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah are still remembered for their non-charting classic tune "Lake Shore Drive." The group appeared in the made-for-TV movie "Sparrow". John Jeremiah died in 2011."

I think he'll get a major obit unlike the others due to the fact that Lake Shore Drive appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, when he was the only one still alive...

The Fall cancel upcoming North American shows due to "terrible timing, reality and a mix of bizarre and rare medical issues" that Mark E Smith is currently being treated for.

Mark had never looked too good (and he's been picked in the DDP for many many years) but at the show in Wakefield last night he looked well... pretty awful.

i'd say he's a good candidate for the deathlist.

(according to the crowd the concert was pretty good, but Fall-fans have different standards)

So many threads this could have gone in, but...

George Young, older brother of Malcolm and Angus who was a founding member of The Easybeats, has died aged 70. http://themusic.com.au/news/all/2017/10/23/australian-legend-and-easybeats-guitarist-george-young-passes-away/

Also an accomplished songwriter (including amazingly Waiting For A Train by Flash And The Pan) and sometime record producer for AC/DC.

Aw FFS - this'll break my heart if it ends in dead pool points so soon. A legend etc. etc. but clearly in a very bad way

Really sad news. One of the greatest songwriters ever and a major death. Has it been reported how he died yet? - I'd have thought Malcolm would have died before him.

Sad to hear that the train has arrived for George.  Hope it's taking him to the land of hope and dreams.
