75 for a bloke in a developed country is an average age. You can't complain too much if you get a terminal diagnosis as a 75 year old but you can't say you've been especially lucky either.

England manager curse?

Memories of Ulri-ka-ka will keep him warm and cosy for years

I wonder if Faria Alam still holds a candle for him.

Not including Caretakers. Winterbottom, Greenwood and Venables(just) are the only former England managers to have reached 80. Winterbottom was the 1st to have the title of manager .

Matter of weeks then perhaps and it's case of him not wanting his death to be a sudden announcement

He doesn't look at death's door in his interview with the BBC but pancreatic cancer is brutal. Very sad news as everyone says what a nice man he is.

Que the 'Golden Generation' lining up with plaudits for the manager that won sweet FA with England.

A really nice guy by all accounts. Hope he gets what he can, out of the time he has left.

at 75 Years old, I can't work out if that's a good age or not really.

International management is a game of luck in many ways. Two penalty shoot-outs go the other way and he would be seen now as one of the great England managers.

You'd have to say England football team managers haven't had great success. Winterbottom (88), Greenwood (84), Venables (80), Robson (76) and Ramsey (79) did ok but none have made it into their 90s. But Revie (61) and Taylor (72) both died relatively early while Glenn Hoddle has had a brush with death on his 61st birthday.

and even the greatest manager they never had didn't make it to 70 :(

Says he hopes to be well enough to attend England v Brazil in March. Which sounds like the year prognosis wasn't made recently.

Interestingly seems like his father is still alive from what he says. From looking elsewhere he's in his mid 90's

Can see him dying late on in the year, will see out the Euros and a bit more but don’t see him reaching xmas, if he does the committee should have him in the top 10 for 2025

So in 10-15 years time, we can expect Southgate to pop up on here with some very bad news?

Missed this last week, Sven made an appearance at a Swedish sport gala. Face looks rather bloated but still fit enough and in good spirits.

It says he was shaking hands with people and embracing them. Not sure that was entirely wise given his condition and compromised immunity.

In any case I hope he makes a better choice of doctors than he did of romantic partners in his life.
