FIFA (maybe intentionally) painted themselves into a corner by having the 2026 tournament hosted in North America, and the 2030 tournament jointly held in South America, Africa and Europe, meaning all those continents were disqualified from the 2034 edition. That left only Asia and Oceania, and when Australia withdrew their bid (I wonder why :scratchhead:) the Saudis, who were backed by the AFC, had no competition.

Australia baulked at the cost, no doubt. We do seem to be at a point where you only get a viable World Cup if the vast expense is a) shared between multiple countries, or b) shouldered entirely by an unsavoury autocratic regime desperate for good publicity or a domestic distraction.

Congratulations to my team Port Vale on reaching the Quarter Finals of the League Cup for the first time in the history of the football club.

Santos relegated for the first time ever. if Pelé wasn't already dead, this'd probably see him off.

This season was the first since Pochettino left that I actually liked seeing Tottenham play, but as Chiellini said, It's the history of the Tottenham, and we won't stop being spursy :(

It's been a bit shit since it all went pear-shaped against Chelsea. But I do think that Postecoglou is taking the club the right way, and although this season is going to be a case of finish as high as we can and hope for a decent FA Cup run, with a couple more transfer windows to get his own players in, we could be pretty good next season.

Anyone else really annoyed by the predictable scheduling and editing on MOTD that gives the result away before the highlights have kicked off?

Man Utd lose to a team from bottom half of the league, top or second billing (despite the frequency with which this happens)

Man Utd beat team from bottom half -towards the bottom of the schedule

Same policy for Man City

Player X picks up innocuous booking, player X is about to be sent off.

Here's player Y being shown entering the fray as a substitute - player Y is going to score imminently

Match scheduled N in the running order will in most cases feature more goals than match N+1

etc etc

They should just go through the schedule in alphabetical order one week and reverse order the following week, sure most fans watch all of it anyway.

Never really thought about how the show is structured before.  Partly because I know all the scores already and just watch it for the goals

I like to watch it not knowing the results.

I catch up on the important stuff (i.e. National League South) earlier in the day.

Studies have shown that is not the case. About 10-15% switch off before the end.

I like to watch not knowing the scores too if possible, since Rovers are no longer in the top tier. Sometimes catch a few scores, but generally at least a few I don't know. When a match like Man United v Bournemouth is first on, you know one of 2 things has happened: either Man United have tanked them or Bournemouth have earned a surprise win.

Margate FC can confirm that, despite not receiving a formal offer to join the European Super League, we will not accept under any circumstance.
We pledge our allegiance to football, The Isthmian Premier Division and The FA.

Klopp leaving Liverpool at end of season saying “he does not have the energy”…..

He could do the decent thing and hand over to Svennis for the rest of the season. Though I suppose his energy levels aren’t great either.

Not sure who watched Rovers v Newcastle on BBC1 last night but we gave them an almighty scare. Great match, had our chances, not quite meant to be. So proud of the lads, they did themselves justice.

Good luck to Coventry this afternoon in the FA Cup semi. They should be the DL’s honorary team (okok, along with Fort William) as that’s where we invented the DL a mere 6 months before Cov won the 1987 FA Cup. Several of us, including Grim, went to both the qf and semi, the latter a raucous day in Sheffield. This qualified us for tickets to the final, which was scuppered by the local constabulary, who ordered the club to sell tickets early to avoid people camping out at Highfield Road for 48 hours. So we didn’t go to Wembley, but we did do the stagger into town to celebrate with complete strangers, which is a great, blurry memory. Ah nostalgia, beer mats for goalposts isn’t it …
