Sir Creep 7,070 Posted June 17, 2015 Alan Almond, presenter of Pillow Talk, dead from a heart attack at 68. http://www.hometownlife.com/story/news/local/beverly-hills/2015/06/16/pillow-talk-radio-show-host-alan-almond-dies/28838285/ Cause of death hadn't been disclosed if be leery to accept that. For those not in the know this guy took a hokey radio show in my former Detroit market and launched it nationwide. A typical song would begin with his baritone drippy dialogue "Mary in Des Moines, Bill misses you and sends you this song..." Oh we all made fun of Alan Almond and he was spoofed by comedians etc, but that's the sincerest form of flattery. You'll be missed Alan Almond, and your sap. maryportfuncity 10,658 Posted July 7, 2015 For the busy DL'er facing too many choices in too little time, this is the thread to provide advance warning of media coverage of those we might like to 'research.' Studs Terkel - 94 year old author, still chucking them out - is on The Culture Show, BBC2, next Saturday, repeated Sunday. Gone a bit off topic now and again in the last nine years; so let's remind ourselves that the infamous documentary on rock drummer, addict and all round mentalist Ginger Baker is on BBC 1 tonight. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted December 3, 2015 Ed Walker, the (blind) 83-year-old Radio Hall of Fame host — who dominated Washington’s airwaves in the 1960s as one half of “The Joy Boys,” with Willard Scott (thus a guaranteed obit) — has recorded his final episode of The Big Broadcast, after recently being diagnosed with cancer. “The last show was a real tearjerker for me,” Walker told WTOP’s Bruce Alan, who co-hosted a WWRC talk show with Walker from 1987 to 1990. “It wasn’t easy.” Walker invited Alan to visit and conduct an informal interview last Friday, after making his cancer diagnosis public. Kind of a sneaky pick, I hope I just ruined someone's unique pick for radio hosts. SC
