Sir Creep 7,070 Posted June 12, 2017 Gordon “Drewe” Henley, 75, had a long acting career, but was well-known for his role as X-Wing Squadron Red Leader Garven Dreis in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” according to the Daily Mail. Parts of the film that featured Henley were also used in the most recent film in the franchise, “Rogue One.” “Episode IV” was the last film Henley, who was previously married to English actress Felicity Kendal, appeared in. He was diagnosed with manic depression after filming completed and he then retired from acting. In 2013, Henley was diagnosed with vascular dementia and may have had drug-related Parkinsonism due to long-term use of antipsychotic medication. He was admitted to the Franklyn Hospital's mental health unit six times between September 2015 and his death. SC

Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted June 17, 2017 It has now been confirmed that the idea was that Star Wars 7 would be Han-centric, 8 will be Luke-centric and 9 was to have been Leia-centric. Well, thank goodness Carrie died then. Leia was by far the least compelling character in the original SW trilogy (she was just a one-dimensional, "feisty" feminist at a time when traditional damsel in distress female characters were starting to fall out of fashion. There is no more depth to the character than that. So there you go, a character cynically designed by Mr Lucas to cash in on the feminist fad so that all the naive little late 1970s/early 1980s tomboys would buy his Leia dolls.) Furthermore, Carrie was nowhere near good enough an actress, with or without drug and pychiatric problems, to be front and centre in a film. It is harsh but fair to say that rewriting Ep 9 to compensate for the lack of the dreadful Leia character will lead to a strong film. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-05-25/star-wars-episode-ix-was-supposed-to-be-about-carrie-fishers-general-leia http://www.avclub.com/article/disney-started-over-star-wars-episode-ix-after-car-254835

I think the general consensus is that it's not as good as Empire Strikes Back but it's certainly better than Phantom of the Menace.
msc 18,421 Posted December 16, 2017 In fairness, Stage IV cancer has a better reputation than Phantom of the Menace.

msc 18,421 Posted December 21, 2017 It's always a surprise, imo, to find out Denis Lawson is that young. He always seemed like a man pushing 70 in things for a decade or two! He was very good in an episode of Inside No 9 recently, much recommended. Leslie Schofield has the Star Wars/Blakes 7/Doctor Who hat trick to his name. Been in shitloads but not seen him in anything new in a while. Shane Rimmer was one of the Thunderbirds and wrote a number of Captain Scarlet episodes too. Still does a fair bit of voice acting. I know Harry Fielder (extra but his CV will get an obit) was ill a while ago.
Deathrace 1,164 Posted December 22, 2017 If he’s eligible to line up for the starter in 2018, Shane Rimmer would make an excellent Deathlist choice. As well as Star Wars and Thunderbirds, he also played a psychopathic conman researching his family tree in an episode of Tales of the Unexpected.
