Are my personal messages being read?

I received a personal message from someone who joined months ago and to whom I've not replied but there seems to be a sudden interest in him.

Gut reaction to that one is surely the same person sent a message to Paul as well?

I can guarantee that was not the case.

We can't read pm's that members send to other members. If the member that pm'd you is who I think it is, he was 'invisible' when he was online. Admins can see you when you are online in this way.

Must be the 'chosen few' that are affected. There was only one member mentioned it on our Facebook page. ;-)

One for the techies. I've got an old pc that I'm using for day to day stuff. Only issue is it's poultry memory. Is there a way I can use a spare external hard drive I've got lying around with much higher memory as internal storage for the computer (i.e to hold steam games and my music and film files that aren't going to fit on the 15GB i've got left after windows and other system and program files?) I'd rather not pull both apart and replace the internal hard drive with the uncased external as I'm not confident about wiring it all up inside the tower.

You need a caddy.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-3-0-SATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure-HDD-2-5-inch-External-Case-Caddy-Black-UK-/112041275272?hash=item1a162e2f88:g:tkQAAOSwvg9XcmSA

Just make sure you get the right size for your hard drive.

Put the hard drive into the caddy and plug the caddy into the computer USB port. Simples.

I thought caddies were to put your old internal hard drives in? Which is not what I intend to do.

If it's in its own case then simply plug it into the PC's USB port. The drivers should automatically install. If you haven't got the cable to connect the two then you'll need to get one.

Yeah I understand that for just using the drive to store things. But my understanding was you can't just run programmes such as games off an external hard drive - I thought you had to "convince" the external hard drive it was part of you're main computer. I've got a slighter bigger issue now in that the pc is actually only 2GB ram.

If you install the game on the external hard drive then you can run it from there.

You can create virtual RAM and there's a video showing you how to do this but of course we can't post videos and I cant post links.

That doesn't improve performance though.

Not meant unkindly but running a game off an external drive connected via a usb with 2GB ram isn't going to be providing Bugatti Veyron levels of performance however you configure it.

Virtual ram will run an order of magnitude slower than real ram which is ok if you don't need the speed but it's still a kludge.

Up to date gaming needs expensive components, it's just the way of it. Ofc if the game is 5 years old, then a level of performance commensurate with that period should be ok, but bear in mind some games have been known to stretch the limits of even high end stuff at the time of release.

Totally agree . Unfortunately. The games 7 years old buts been updated to modern specs. Literally can't run it on the computer full stop. Time to raid the piggy bank

The virtual RAM should stop the game from crashing but that's about all. Totally agree with EP's view on the subject.
