There was no split, Stefano died, so I wouldn't describe her as "ex".  She was still Caroline's mother-in-law and the grandmother of her children. The article describes them as being close.

Al Raine, the husband of Canadian skiing legend Nancy Greene Raine, has died. He was 83. Under her maiden name, Greene Raine was a 1968 gold and silver medal winner in Grenoble and had 13 World Cup victories. The couple had been married 55 years.

The father of Kneecap's Móglaí Bap has died (yesterday). Gearóid Ó Cairealláin suffered a stroke in 2006 which left him paralysed from the waist down; he died in hospital after a short illness. He was a staunch advpcate of the Irish language, overseeing the launch of the Irish language newspaper Lá.

Dorthy Moxley has died aged 92. She was the mother of Martha Moxley, who was murdered in 1975; with the murder generally attributed to Michael Skakel, nephew of Ethel Kennedy. 

 

He was tried and convicted in 2002, but a retrial was ordered in 2013; he was re-convicted in 2016. In 2018 the same court overturned the conviction, ordering a retrial. In 202 the state of Connecticut decided against a retrial on the grounds that it couldn't be proven 'beyond all reasonable doubt'.
