Italia '90 was my first World Cup. So bit of a kick in the nuts. Did very little at the top level apart from the 1989/90 season and that summer in 1990. Don't think we've seen a player like that at a tournament since

DoorSlammer 559 Posted September 22 Dutch football scout Piet de Visser (wiki), also former chief scout of Chelsea, close(?) friend of Roman Abramovich and the man who scouted players like Ronaldo Nazario and Kevin De Bruyne turns 90 tomorrow, which is nothing but a miracle because of his past health issues. It seems like his immortality is nearing the end, however. The man who survived esophageal cancer, colon cancer and cancer in the groin, has had multiple heart surgeries including five bypass surgeries, had a pacemaker installed at the age of 89, outlived his wife, has lived on space food for the past 25 years because his esophagus was removed due to the cancer, is housebound for most of the time and has a chronic viral infection in his lungs. Now he also has a malignant tumour of the size of a fist in his abdomen that can only be stabilized with injections and hormone treatment. The function of his kidneys is also very low. Despite all of this he stays positive, keeps working and still wants to travel to his own football academy in Ghana, but he admits the latter may no longer be possible.

diego 1,978 Posted October 10 This went unnoticed when it happened, but Marko Valok, born in Surčin, now Serbia, died aged 97 on 29 Sept, he represented Yugoslavia in the 1950 World Cup qualifiers, scoring goals against Israel on that occasion, he played for Partizan and holds the record for most goals in the Serbian "eternal derby", scoring thirteen times against rival Red Star Belgrade and was top scorer in the 1950 Yugoslav championship. He coached the Myanmar national team. But the main reason I bring his name here is just one curiosity. He was the penultimate living coach of the Yugoslavia national team, coaching in 1977. The last living coach of the extinct Yugoslavia national football team is Ivan Čabrinović (b.1939) Correct me if I'm wrong and if there are any others still alive https://katera.news/preminuo-legendarni-fudbaler-partizana-marko-valok
