No they don't - they would be Class 2 deaths.

Well, what do you classify as Class I? US Presidents, UK PMs, big name world statesman, UK Monarch, anyone else? Otherwise, it's fairly simple. It's a very small subsection of society, and dwindling.

When trying to figure out how important a death is, you've got to take into consideration how publicly active a person was in their final years, and how relevant they were to the whole world (with US, UK 'weighing' more than the rest of the first world, which weighs more than the second world, which weighs more than the third world).

Anyways, this might cause some of you Brits to spit out your tea, or choke on your scone, out of shock.. but, I think David Bowie was more important of a death than Margaret Thatcher.

Thatcher wasn't seen often in public in her final years, nor did she do anything of significance in her final years. She was basically the British (and female) version of Ronald Reagan - in political views, but also in fame/importance. So a very big death, but not something the whole world went crazy about (except for all the pink-haired, emotionally weak, extreme leftist, fandom-joining, Tumblr loving, young adults, whose sexualities you need to look up the definition: for them it was a big deal and a cause for celebration).

Bowie's music was enjoyed, however, all across the world. He was very relevant in both the US and the UK. He actually did something before his death - released a new album. Plus his death was an unexpected shocker, Thatcher was old and known to be ill.

Also, another thing - put down your tea and your scones - Obama dying is more significant to Brits and the world than Cameron dying is to Americans and the world. It's like that for all politicians. Bush dying is more significant to Brits and the world than Blair dying is to Americans and the world.

My personal class system falls as such:

Class 1:

Monarchs, former Prime Ministers, former Presidents of the United States. Major world statesmen. Historically important figures like Mandela.

(Some Living examples: Queen Elizabeth, George Bush Sr, Jimmy Carter, John Major)

Class 2:

Internationally famous public figures Entertainers and authors etc - plus those who are massive in UK cultural history or worldwide cultural history.

(Some living examples: Prince, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Kieth Richards , Vera Lynn, William Roache, Barbara Windsor, Tom Baker)

Class 3:

People's who are household names in the United Kingdom regardless of origin of heritage, but not necessarily internationally famous.

(Some living examples: Bernard Cribbins, Norman Lamont, Alan Shearer, Kieth Gillespie, Steve McFadden, Andrew Niel)

Class 4:

Low-rent celebrities whose fame derives from short careers, or careers made up of bit-part work popping up here and there.

(Some examples being reality show contestants, members of one hit wonder bands etc)

Class 5:

Dying people whose sole claim to fame to derives from the fact they have been unwell or dying.

I would take extreme issue with only political figures being considered for Class 1 status, but it's your system and you've presented it well. So I applaud that which makes me twitch nonetheless.

Historically important is a bit more lenient than just political figures, if someone like Einstein was still around they'd probably creep into that class.

There has recently been guidance from the Arts Council on how to deal with an A-death (meaning Royal Family or major political figure)

Class I - I've heard of them and like them.

Class II - I've heard of them but am indifferent/respect/dislike/any other emotion.

Class III - I've heard of them but don't know much about them

Class IV - I've not heard of them and I know nothing - but they have shown up on a deadpool somewhere.

Class V - Zilch

Class VI - "How come X isn't on the Deathlist? They're the most famous octogenerian fisherman in all of Maine!"

Well, it's been over a year, but I've finally changed my profile picture. It is of Celia Cruz looking ridiculous. I would have added the caption "AZUCAR!!!" but I was too lazy.

Spring is just around the corner and the peregrins that nest at Nottingham Trent University and Derby Cathedral have once again taken up residence.

I love to watch these every year.

The Nottingham falcon laid her first egg today.

Currently sitting in a bar with a beer and had no sleep as I was doing an essay on philosophy all last night!ISafe to say Habermas is getting picked for one of my pools next year! I am guessing I have failed! Also I got in touch with a girl I used to fancy like hell at School and she is visiting me Saturday! So basically the world seems very strange at the moment! And to top it all off Donald Trump may be the next president of America.Safe to.say the lines of reality and fantasy are very blurred right now for me!

I have a strong feeling that a major death will take place before the weekend is out.
