This is going to be a coronation, isn’t it? Can’t see Penny getting the 100 votes, sadly. She’d be brilliant.

I don’t think one MP has endorsed her since Boris dropped out. She will withdraw in the morning I suspect.

Nadine Dorries has now spoken and is not happy!

It won't though, will it Nadine? Because in the same way you didn't have the votes to get Boris on the ballot, you also don't have the votes or the suicidal tendency to create a majority for no confidence in the government. So we stagger on until Rishi Rich decides to call an election.

This late intervention may have been key to denying him the support he needed!

I may have slipped into a parallel universe, but did I just hear he's wanting to ennoble his 2 year old son Wilfred to the House of Lords?

Reselected as the candidate for Uxbridge and South Ruislip - this could be a very dodgy move for someone clearly considering a second spell as leader. Last time out he managed just over 52% of the vote and a bit more than 7200 majority but Labour are a fairly strong second and everyone else is nowhere meaning that the current 20 point lead enjoyed by Labour and Bojo's abilities to motivate tactical voting aginst the tories make this a very hard seat to call next time out. Not sure if a former PM has ever lost a seat in a general election, but doubtless - nearer the time - the pundits will be citing historical precedents as they discuss this seat.

Edward Heath had a fairly close call, holding on by about 3,000 in 1997 but not in living memory. I think MacMillan lost his seat in 1945 before he became Prime Minister.

Ramsay MacDonald lost to Manny Shinwell in 1935 when he was standing for National Labour.

Aye, Bojo is more of a shoot from the hip merchant than any PM in living memory and this - seriously - might be a massive miscalculation, gonna get tasty in the run up to the election because the tonnage of fringe candidates who parchute into the PM's seat and hoover up a few votes will all be busy in Richmond.

Manny Shinwell, who was a centenarian of course, not in 1935 admittedly.

Asquith lost his seat when Lloyd George split the Liberals but imo you're wanting Balfour who went into the 1906 election expecting to be made prime minister (as he had been weeks earlier) only to suffer one of the worst landslide defeats in history and lose his own seat in the process.

Been a while...

117 years, then, thanks for the insight - Bojo always wanted to go down in history, he may succeed.
