maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted March 14, 2018 There's a long dark cloud pouring incessant rain on Morecambe today. I mean, that's not exactly news - but you get where I'm going With all due respects to some scientist who got mentioned on the news this morning Bowen's demise is seismic by comparison. Rant over!

charon 4,943 Posted March 14, 2018 Can't be arsed checking, but is that the first of the main cast of Phoenix Nights to peg? Spikey and Kay next please. And that Moorehouse cunto too. Eta. McGuiness. No lightee no likee. Why did I like the series if they're all a bunch of cunts?
Spade_Cooley 9,525 Posted March 14, 2018 Ced Beaumont, who played The Captain in the first two episodes, died in 2002. John Axon played the guy who Clinton Baptiste caused an argument with his girlfriend ("Tell her before she gets hurt"), died 2008. Can't be arsed to go down the cast list any further than that. Fun (not fun) facts: John Axon was named after his grandfather John Axon, a train driver who received a posthumous George's Cross for sacrificing his life to stop a greater disaster in a 1957 runaway freight incident. Ewan McColl wrote a radio ballad about him:

My grandparents always watched Bullseye so for me Jim Bowen is very much a part of my childhood memories.

He was only in the first episode of Series 2 iirc, relatively big name cameo but just the one off. Main cast is different, lest we forget Ted Robbins was almost, and may still be, the first to go there.
Grim Up North 3,725 Posted March 14, 2018 Hawking and Bowen on same day - not surprising that Jim checked out on a double. 2
