Another founding member Joe Terry dead according to Twitter...

If true, is Frank Maffei still about? He'd be the sole survivor from the group that had their first UK top 10 in 1958....

He still is, attended a luncheon (as did Joe Terry!) a few weeks back:

No less an authority than Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet is reporting Les Reed as dead. For those unfamiliar with his name, he wrote "It's Not Unusual", "There's A Kind of Hush" and Leeds United's "Marching On Together".

Jonathan Hodge, film and TV music guy probably best known for Henry's Cat and the Shake N Vac jingle has died: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9529352/jonathan-hodge-dead-shake-n-vac-advert/

I for one will thank him for contributing to one of the great years of pop with this 1978 #3 Hit from Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley:

Shake N Vac jingle

Downstairs my man for that sin alone.

I can still bring it to earworm status with no effort at all forty years later. And I can also still picture that ludicrous woman jigging about on the carpet with a hoover (please no links to the youtube of it that I'm sure exists :P)

That said, I played your link, and to be honest I think I prefer the shake and vac ad which is quite something.

Hey -- whatever happened to unwritten rule we post a video clip when possible or musical artists?  Do I gotta do everything around here? (Non Admin role, if you honestly believe that. )

A retired British Columbia cop who's poem became the basis for the iconic (in Canada) song Wildflower, by Skylark, has died.  He was 76 or 77.  The song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1973.

Daniel Johnston, the outsider folk artist whose childlike pleas for love captivated the likes of Kurt Cobain and Tom Waits, has died. The singer died of a heart attack. He was 58.
The singer will best be remembered for his warbly, high tenor and simplistic ruminations on love and life on songs like “Life in Vain,” “True Love Will Find You in the End,” and “Walking the Cow.”  Cobain wore a T-shirt repping Johnston’s Hi, How Are You album, and artists including Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, and Beck have all covered his songs.

(edit: aye, I see Joey posted elsewhere earlier now).

As a songwriter and musician myself, this is one of the biggest deaths for me this year and maybe decade (along with Downie in 2017). R.I.P D.J
