This is an American.

Any innocent gesture in the USA can get you killed. I'm thinking about setting a toe on a lawn that's not yours, knocking on someone's door for directions or a delivery, or even the simple statement "I can't breathe".

We don't really have a thread for just medical info or breakthroughs or technology re: diseases that we encounter while researching.

So I'm just going to post this brief article here, talks about a new finding re: a common blood test as indicating whether pancreatic cancer patient better or worse off at diagnosis.

One of the earliest images of death recorded on motion picture film in the U.S. is Thomas A. Edisons 1903 film, Electrocuting an Elephant, a publicity film of the electrocution of Topsy, an elephant who helped to build Luna Park at Coney Island. (Watch itagain and againhere.) Edison used the footage as a tool to promote the effectiveness of his DC (direct current), now in use, as opposed to Nicholai Teslas AC (alternating current) process. So, Topsys filmed death was essentially an infomercial.

Also, it is currently 12:26 AM UTC, November 20, and the Deaths in 2015 page on Wikipedia has no death for November 19. Is this a record?

Used to live just outside Larky. I still feel as if I've been poisoned by their bigotry, but I think I managed to escape before it took a hold completely. I'm surprised it shows ISIS. It would usually say summat like 'TIMS' ( Scots will understand what I'm saying )

Can anyone (especially if you're in British Columbia) shed some light on this?

The links below take you into Google maps and show a road named Peace Park Drive in Surrey B.C. The ditch at the side of the road defines the border between the U.S. and Canada. It would seem that people are encouraged to cross the border even to the point of telling you that dogs must be on a leash and a post that says United States on one side and Canada on the other side. There is no sign saying you must not cross.

I remember seeing on the news a while back that police officers in the border towns of Stanstead and Derby (where the Haskell Free Library is), were telling people not to cross the open border but to go via the official crossing to the east.

Why the difference in policy?

I have lived in BC my entire life and I had no idea this even existed. All I could find is that you must have ID and/or immigration papers on you at all times.

So is this unique in your experience of U.S. and Canadian border etiquette?

There are warning signs between Delta and Point Roberts.

As a Detroiter, we lived across the bridge and/or tunnel from Canada and what with drinking age being 19 vs 21 and fully nude dancers and our dollars worth 1.4 loonies and they with far better beer and smokes, well it was heaven for a 19-20 year old Yank, and we went often.

All my life the only thing you had to do was show a driver's license at the country of entry and answer how many were in the car, your purpose for coming, and how long you'd be.

About 6 months after 9-11 they instituted that you HAD to have a passport to cross. Well that's $100 and so far fewer folks went. I happen to have one but my daughter doesn't and now thanks to these fucked up overzealous laws I can't let her stand in another country for a lousy hour and brag to her friends in Louisiana years from now.

So yes if their REALLY being assholes now and saying keep papers on you at all times like its some border with Syria or something, then it's totally new and outrageous. Driver's license should suffice.

I thought your daughter was only, like, 5. She doesn't have a driving licence, surely?

Yes. I've never lived in a border town and travelling to Blaine or Bellingham to shop wasn't on my must do list. Prior to 9/11 a Canadian citizen only needed a valid piece of ID now we need a passport. My passport expired in 1995 so I don't travel much. When I get a chance I'll ask my neighbours they go to the US nearly every weekend. They might know more about the rules and such.

There is another westcoast DL member maybe he'll see your post and reply with better information.

Now Katie Hopkins, there's another cunt. Perhaps instead of 'Let's Make Deathlist a So-and-So Free Zone' we should just make it a 'Let's Make Deathlist a Cunt Free Zone'.

Oh, hang on, that will never work........
