I'm convinced he's going to make a specific nuclear threat to a specific city within the next few days, and there will be mass panic and evacuation of that city. If that city is in NATO, I believe NATO has to make a corresponding threat in return.

Seen some discussions on his health - mental and physical - in papers like The Sunday Times which suggest his isoloation from others has brought the paranoia to dangerous levels. We've joked hereabouts about his Botox face but it's round enough that it could be partly down to steroids because he's on anti-retrovirals, which would explain his huge fear of Covid (because his immune system might be really vulnerable)

 

Relevant, maybe, because removal on medical grounds might be an option. Seriously, if his closest military advisors start to believe he'll deploy tactical nukes, you'd expect even Russians supporting a leader would intervene before he unleashes a process that'll destroy their nation.

You need a reality check. He's not going to threaten a NATO city. He's more likely to threaten Kyiv. And even then, I don't think it's a given. It's a provocation and, as @msc says, a sign that Ukraine is turning into a complete mess, both on the ground and diplomatically. Four days in, he did not expect to have failed to occupy any major city and for the world to unite so completely in condemnation of him. The fact the EU have moved so swiftly, despite having the likes of Viktor Orban to potentially contend with, is incredible. The danger in manufactured crises like these is miscalculation, but I suspect there would be a military coup before a nuclear strike.

@RoverAndOut Orban was actually at the Hungarian border the other day to announce he was welcoming refugees. When you can make him and Erdogan look like the good guys in a dispute...

 

Also, just a word about Putin nuking Kiev. It's one of the greatest cities in the Orthodox Church, as pointed out yesterday by the Lithuanian President, and harming it considerably would be the equivalent to your average religious Russian as a Western Catholic leader trying to blow up Jerusalem.
