3 peers quietly retired from the House of Lords over the past few days.

Lord Rana (wiki) Indian-born businessman, sat as a Conservative (although originally a crossbencher). Turns 86 in September. He was at risk of being thrown out next week due to not attending any sittings in the last session. May signal ill health?

Baroness Fritchie (wiki), turned 82 in April. Crossbencher.

Lord Saville (wiki), turned 88 in March. Crossbencher (and sits by virtue of being a law lord). He was also at risk of being thrown out next week due to not attending any sittings in the last session. Ill?

Good that Oona King is going. She was never committed in the first place. Had been on a leave of absence for about a decade.

Lord MacKenzie, former TUC boss, is 84 and could be worth keeping an eye on. Archer's health seems to be fine – he's just not bothered about sitting in the Lords. Hasn't spoken in years and rarely discusses politics now.

I remember seeing her take a leave of absence years ago in a documentary on Parliament. I was surprised then that she would do such work and not stay in the Lords, and even more surprised that she would decide to retire while still young, presumably to continue job hopping... I'm hoping we won't see this trend continue with some of the youngest life peers. (I don't really like life peerages anyway, personally, and wish that somey would repeal the 1992 changes, but that is neither here nor there...)
