Only Famous For Being Ill And Dying

Recommended Posts

Here's an American entry for Shameless 2018 -- if she makes it.
Earlier this year, Andy Sealy found out she had cancer and needed a double mastectomy, so she threw a good-bye party for her breasts and made headlines across the world.

But after the March 8 surgery to remove both her breasts, follow-up testing gave her some troubling news: she has Stage 4 (they originally thought she was Stage 1) metastatic breast cancer — and it is incurable.

The link is from People Magazine, a very popular rag in the States and worldwide I reckon.  I think she has a solid obit chance as any Shameless team member.

That's 35 articles. Is this more or less than the coverage of Joey Feek? Anyway, there are three topics all together in this story, the cancer battle, the Logie win, and the friend who disappeared. But they're all intertwined.

Now we go back to our regular programming...

Shameless now in triple digits and at 2nd place with DQSP. But seriously, can it get any higher?

If none of the regulars (like Christie, Van Zandvliet or King Michael) die, it's Gemma Nuttall or Aundrea Bannatyne for the lead.

Goddammit, that means To Kill A Gabor Sister is out of the podium for the first time since mid-March.

Fair play, I think a lot of us had scouted Williams as a pick but rejected him out of hand due to obit worries. Shameless, of course, don't need to worry on that level.

Never heard the name nor saw it discussed.  So I'm just outta the loop on some of these U.K. Locals I reckon

I haven't put any cancer mums on my longlist yet because I am really hoping FFBI are banned (I feel slightly differently about Fringes of Family).

It's still related to his illness somewhat, so I think he's still excluded from the poker tournament, unless YoungWilz says otherwise.

I shall be aiming for a somewhat more famous clientele for YW's poker tournament.

However, point stands. This dude is now former Everest mountaineer with cancer, rather than dude with cancer.

Now, while I appreciate his efforts, people are climbing Everest all the time and get no coverage and he gets it because he is ill. His fame is consequential to his illness and therefore he doesn't count for the tourney. If you must have a ruling.

Ok. I'm a bad bad man. Ruling stands though. People do a lot of things, achieve a lot of things when they know they are going to die. He won't count.

Oh, I'm with you on that....my kinda point is if he died during attempt, 'legit pick', died after, 'not legit'...

I agree w Willz's viewpoint, his accomplishment is admittedly more interesting than the deathbed marriages that loiter around this thread, but he wouldn't be getting press for this were it not for the cancer.

No, but again, my point sort of is if he failed and died in the attempt....any Brit would obit. Succeed and nobody gives a fuck later... Irrelevant I know re YW's game as if he'd died it would be before the shuffle.

I see where you are coming from, but he wouldn't have counted anyway. Achieve something, become famous/infamous pre-diagnosis and you are fine, post-diagnosis you are out.

I've already had picks in the five teams entered on which I've had to make decisions. There are some whose names are out there on the forum, they are dying for sure, but I've checked and there is enough pre-illness for them to count. Don't want to give current examples, but just to be ridiculous, Victoria Wood would have counted, Charlotte Eades would not.

My view is if you think it's a dodgy pick, it's probably a dodgy pick.

Aye but then step forward Pauline Cafferkey (?) , the multiple times afflicted Ebola nurse. Now, a modicum of fame , a national radio interview, before she'd left the country.... Famous in my mind for putting herself in the firing line and not for being shot. Interesting case could be made for her even being a legit pick for Pools  because she's survived it, and it isn't a death sentence....
