Obit for Jessica Allen has appeared.

I honestly expected it'd be Sally Major getting one out of the two.

Yes, same here. I mean, I take it, but The Sun and Mirror cover Sally Major's story just days before her death and then fail to mention it. Jessica Allen was out of the news for about half a year and then makes it. It's always a bit of a lottery.

Initially, I expected Shameless to get 5 sure hits that would make it defend the title. Those were Lisa Magill, Hannah Lyson, Ben Suisala, Bobby Zarin and Jay Clark. I don't think Suisala will obit anymore, but Irfon Williams recently made the jump from BBC local news to Mirror. Sophie Sabbage is also a good candidate. I didn't really bank on Major and Allen, but you can always expect one or two to obit.

Interesting story: Sophie Sabbage's book was read by Leah Bracknell shortly after her diagnosis:

I still think Suisala has a chance to obit, and that's because they can pick up stories again that are more than half a year old that haven't been reported since. Take a look at Jade Pateman. First reported in July, not a single mention since until she dies, then the story got picked up again. That was nearly a 7 month gap. So, anything is possible really.

Unless you're Alan Aspin! I swear, I was tempted to actually write a damned article myself and mention his death in it (for a QO) but it got veto'd by my better half on accounts of it being cheating, if you could imagine that! B):P

(There might be one or two, or ten lies in the previous statement - never let the truth get in the way of an anecdote...)

Woo-hoo! It is now official that I am the player of the month for March.

I think this is my first official DDP accomplishment.

And no more crappy business with the dates of birth from the 19th Century failing to translate from Excel to Access. That's one less burden on my successor...

I think Advent Avalanche might finish in the top 50 now, tbh. Top 30 if I'm lucky.

Aaawww no.... You're pretty definite with this? I would love you to "hold the keys" of it all, but to share the responsibilities more. I mean, the most stress it at the beginning of the year, isn't it? Maybe recruit one or two other people to do that work with you?

Edit: At least for now, I think it's too early to already call the Theme Team League. Francis of Arse-Easy will get more hits, I think. I'll need 1-2 more hits to win.

On the other hand, I'll retire Shameless for the (hopefully) next DDP, because, yes, I do think I will win, and I think Shameless will always win the Theme Team League whenver it enters. It has already made it's gigantic, rotten impact on deadpooling and deserves to die itself.

A what-if scenario: If Piers Sellers and John Glenn saw January, could my space theme team have given Shameless a run for its money? Sellers would have been the joker and would have definitely made the Drop 40, I doubt Glenn would have though if he lived, as that final health report only happened because he was near death. Even with that scenario, I'd still probably have needed some of the really old picks to put in some elbow grease.

Piers Sellers would have been 12 Pts, or 24 as your joker... Instead, you have Dreyer as Joker who gave you 18 pts. So with Sellers, you would have 6 pts more than you currenlty have PLUS the 9 pts Dreyer would have given you alone. John Glenn would have given you 5 more pts (maybe a tiny chance of 8 pts if he had made the Drop 40?). So you might have 20-23pts more right now than you currently have, that's 44-47. Shameless has 60 now. I expect about two-three more hits for Shameless resulting in about 20-25 pts (most likely Irfon Williams, Bobby Zarin and Sophie Sabbage). So your team needs about 80-85pts, or about 40 more out of your remaining members. Not impossible, but I think most of the ways involve Stephen Hawking dying.

I always have felt like there should be a points multiplier for Theme League picks based on the depth of the pool you're choosing from.

"Women" = x1

"People from Coalville" x10

F'rinstance.

Congratulations to DQSP on reaching 100 points!

The gap between GS and him is down to 7 points... but could widen again with the fast-approaching death of Paul van-Zandvliet.

Meanwhile, I fall to 3rd place... and I need one more hit to get 100 points... come on King Michael...

Well, it's a bit premature as I haven't seen a QO yet for Perham...

Yeah, annoyingly the BBC put his death on their local section. Would have thought a Times obit was a cert for him though, may even sneak through ITV's national rather than regional news.

Just remembered Mother Angelica died on Easter last year. This a new tradition for you - religious folk coincidentally dying on the Easter weekend? Hah.

Wouldn't really call a member of the Church of England "religious" tbh.

A bit of a scary thought, what if my Advent Avalanche team somehow scores more points than my main team in the end?
