Btw just to add, there was a Pointless question a few months back, Names of Band Members/Name the Band, and 46 people knew that "Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton" were the band Cream. So, somewhat better public awareness than anytime they try to ask folk members of the UK government, countries of Europe, teams at the last World Cup, or railway stations in London!

OK I sit corrected, although would still contend that 40+ of those 46 people would have got it because they knew the name of Eric Clapton's old band. As for naming members of the government, most cabinet posts have a quicker turnover than the role of Cheryl Cole's boyfriend so not surprised at that one.

I'll admit that in all my years on the planet, I've never once heard a Cream track.

 

However I've been aware of them ever since I got a book out of the library (remember them? Libraries?) on 60s bands when I was around 13/14 and there they were mentioned.

 

Imo, this is a bit of a lucky strike for the Committee given Ginger was gigging about last year. I think they needed an ingredient for the List, and suddenly Ginger becomes the dominant flavour. But a hit is a hit.

In seriousness though, from what I heard of Baker’s drumming, it was phenomenal and I’ll make sure to check out more of his work too. RIP to an amazing drummer.

Great drummer, not the nicest human being by all accounts. Still, a lot nicer than Mugabe and probably Chirac. RIP
