Northampton (and surrounding areas) chain of 80s-style American diner restaurants.

Fair enough. In Estonia we have the same kind of restaurants. But they are called Diner here.

Back in the Top 40, heading for my best finish with my main team.

Still need a daily double with McCain and Benedict, I feel. Neil Simon and Morricone feel like outside bets. The others..meh. Only gravy if they go.

So, Death Impends takes the lead with 4 months to go then...

Ah, but Pity Da Foolz with the joker of Stefan Karl....

The lead is just a nonagenarian in a care home away...

Exciting for a neutral

Spade's already updated the scoreboard! Top man.

Only 2nd time in DDP history I have reached 100 points. Altitude sickness!

Plus Simon says there may be another trick up Pity Da Foolz's sleeve. Frates isn't too bad a pick either, nor is Lima... and Nobby is my best non-Brackers/McCain pick left but he's useless against PDF.

I think I'll need something deeply unexpected (an obit for a LotLer or a shock downturn in Gilbert/Vervoort/Youngs) for the lead to hold.

I think Frates likely has the slower moving ALS, so your probably safe on that front. But yeah, Ricketts and Lima are definitely good picks on Pity Da Foolz squad, so yeah, interesting times coming up...

This is all still so very diffuse... I mean, last year King Michael died in December - so it's far, far too early to say how it's going to end. The joker dud and the non obits really work against DI, but... maybe Marieke changes her mind... or Johnny Clegg goes down fast (the farewell tour has ended, I saw no update?). I would somewhat agree with DI that the lead isn't going to last long - because some things should still happen as the year goes on - but before the flop, a pair of two's is as good as a king and an ace.

Given it's way past June, I thought I'd actually check my scoreboard. It's a bad year for Cobbles to a Coffin which is being beaten by Shot in the Dark due to the sole death of Ray Davies between the two teams.

25 points and 158th from 3 deaths for the Kervorkian Clinic isn't horrendous, but we're going to need a bit more movement to get close to the 55th place achieved in 2016. Set for a rebound from last years 398th place and 2 deaths though.

Yeah, Stefan sure does shake things up a bit.

I'm back in the top 10. And only 9 points behind Bucket of Blood, with whom I only have 5 differentials. My only realistic chance of surpassing him is if Nobby Stiles dies, while Ami Brown/Linda Nolan/Vervoort survive. Still doesn't mean I'll win of course. Onto 2019...

I actually got a bit of a shock this morning when I saw that SKS had died.  While this is good news for Pity da Foolz's chances of winning DDP it seemed like SKS was a man with a lot of good to do whose time was cut short.

So now my chances in DDP look to be resting mainly on Marieke Vervoort retaining her will to live and one of my non-Bracknell/McCain types not seeing New Year's.  I still think Anne Hamilton-Byrne is a good chance, Simon Ricketts is odds on and Nobby Stiles still a chance.  Nolan and Willesee are long shots.  A couple of much belated obits would be gratefully accepted...but won't be holding my breath.

Good luck to all.

Joint 5th with myself B)

Likely as good as it's going to get though - should probably take a screen shot.

Think PdF has all of my possibles in his team apart from Vervoort and then I would get swamped from behind with all the Vervoort jokers (same might be true if Bracknell dies).

The beauty of having Anne Hamilton-Byrne as a runner is that she is the kind of person you can wish to die without feeling like a bad person.  97ish years old, barely aware of her existence, and an evil hag in life.....not much to miss.

I said a few months ago that she was a bad pick because she's worth so few points.  It would be ironic if her death resulted in Pity Da Foolz becoming the 2018 DDP Champion.

So good luck to all competitors and also runners (except Anne H-B!).

Are we sure she is still alive? Two years in hospice care is a suspiciously long time...

She's probably in a care home rather than the "in final days with terminal cancer" hospice we're used to hearing about. Similar to the cases of Bobby Doerr and still-living Bishop Francis Quinn.

I Google her demise on a regular basis and have seen nowt suggesting she's slipped over. The Aussie press will definitely have her as national news. Like Billy Graham you suspect God's in no great hurry to meet up!

@Spade_Cooley When I visit the list of B celebs, it just goes down to George Blake and the S celebs just goes down to Ronnie Spector.

Tried the other letters and they are okay. It's just these two.

My fault for trying to update while on a train's wifi. I'd actually fixed this before I saw your post!

With McCain's death, I have now broken my own point record by one point. Definitely a better year for me than last year. :champagne:
