msc 18,397 Posted December 27, 2023 I've entered my annual team but to my great shock, for the first time ever in a decade, NO REJECTIONS. I've clearly gone full casual player!
Death Impends 7,942 Posted December 28, 2023 At joint 10th right now thanks to a Gaston Glock end of year solo. If it holds, has to be a personal best given how I've been casual here well before I went casual in all the other deadpools.
Captain Hemlock 729 Posted December 28, 2023 Only 3 more hits to 200 in this pool.
Commtech Sio Bibble 2,008 Posted December 29, 2023 I'm planning on submitting an entry later today, there's nothing on the on-site rules about subs in case one of your picks dies before the game starts. Is it allowed to add a few extra names at the bottom of my email as long as I clearly identify them as substitute picks.
gcreptile 10,939 Posted January 1 My rejections this year: Brian Barczyk Frank Caprio Cairo Lima Denise Oliver-Velez Shuntaro Kanai (producer) 叶井俊太郎 Giovanni Arvaneh Steve McCoy Caprio is puzzling. Kanai would have been nice. Oliver-Velez is also a little unexpected, as they did allow Jane McAlevey and Harry Edwards, similar author/scientist/activist kind of people. My team 2024: Franz Beckenbauer Roy Battersby Jonnie Irwin Jack Hanna Eleonora Giorgi Harry Edwards Dikembe Mutombo Ustad Rashid Khan Jan AP Kaczmarek Rick "Black Bart" Harris Stuart Gray Roberta Flack Simon Cowell (SOS Wildlife) Antero Laukkanen Anders Vendel Steve "Mongo" McMichael John Okafor (Mr. Ibu) Joaquin Orellana Tanyeli Jimmy Carter Noam Chomsky Michael Tilson Thomas Chuwit Kamolvisit Charlie Bird Rob Burrow Marcel Nemec Kathy Brown Glen Cochrane Zack Orji Takuro Morinaga Sir Henry Mountcharles Jamal Yunos Lem Barney Joe Shannon (chef) Antti Törmänen Elisabeth Ohlson Niels Olsen James Whale Jane McAlevey Derek Draper Torsun Teichgräber was a painful early loss. I had to sub in last-minute hospitalization Zack Orji. Guess we'll see how that goes.
alt obits guy 3,365 Posted January 1 The AO Deadpool is on for another year. While keeping my team's composition to myself, I'm happy to share rejected selections: Frank Caprio James Carter Cathcart Denise Oliver-Velez Rejected substitute selection: Mika Immonen Additionally, I needed a 5th sub pick after Cale Yarborough died on December 31st.
Toast 16,063 Posted January 1 No reason to keep mine under wraps. He wouldn't let me have Theo Burrell I thought there was a US version of Antiques Roadshow, so would have thought AR experts would be notable enough. drunkasaskunk 194 Posted January 11 Am I missing something here? How can a "pick" be rejected? Surely they get a QUALIFYING obituary or they don't? Let us face it, it isn't you or I that makes someone newsworthy - it is the press / media. I have seen that - for some unknown reason - FRANK CAPRIO - a guy who has his own TV show and that I have heard of in the backwater of England (OK - SCOTLAND!!!!) So why ( and by whom) was he rejected? How the fuck was Tim Bilton, rejected yet replaced with Christoph Daum? What makes one more Pick-worthy (sic) than the other? I have always maintained that the media / Press should be the arbiters. If a headline says "mum-of-three, 26, dies days after ‘Brazilian bum-lift’ surgery in Turkey" then, they are clearly., NOT FAMOUS (otherwise it would say "singer / film director / former NATO President, 26, dies days after ‘Brazilian bum-lift’ surgery in Turkey") Why was Theo Burrell, an expert on a TV programme watched by MILIONS of people rejected but a ( and I quote) "A Jew who posed as Hitler Youth to survive war" was allowed as a scoring pick (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/11/world/europe/solomon-perel-dead.html) How often does the bloke or blokes that have the power of veto actually win this game? I might start my own game. All you have to do is pick 20 celebs aged under 25 - while I can pick people aged over 100. FUCKING MADNESS. 1

gcreptile 10,939 Posted January 11 I .. think... they allow picks if they think that these people would obit even if they didn't have cancer at 50, but instead died of old age at 90. Still, I didn't expect all of my picks to come through. Irish cook Joe Shannon, while very prominent, doesn't have a wikipedia page. And I doubt he'd obit in 30 years long after his TV appearances. So in some cases, they really keep you guessing.
