Peggy and also Rosalie is short (wtf) for Margaret, Dick for John, Bell (to do with the Angelus so there is some form of reasoning there) in place of Nora Noel but it all makes absolutely perfect sense in Ireland. Nobody is ever called by their real names. It was a tradition that the grandparents would take a new baby to be registered and would quite often decide in the company of the local priest that a child's name was too fancy / heathen / protestant, so would give it something their parents didn't even choose.
