He just got a stent inserted into him, which is pretty common for people younger than him to have inside his body. Unless this becomes a continuing trend, I don’t think he’s completely done, although this probably will hurt his campaign a bit...

Yeah, I reckon he won't make it to be the final candidate - not sure if Bidon will either. I think someone much younger than Trump would be the best call come the head to head debates -  assuming Trump lasts to then

I don't think this necessarily will destroy his campaign, but rather put the question of age even more in the limelight than it already is.  Perhaps this helps the younger candidates more than anything else?

 

It will also certainly highlight the importance of a VP pick, assuming Biden/Warren/Sanders get the nomination.

I've just seen a clip of him on Twitter and he seems to have aged quite drastically (maybe lost weight) since I last saw him a year or so ago, whilst I don't think he is in any danger he's one I'd keep an eye on.

Currently he seems well enough to run again but he really shouldn't. I do find it fascinating how long some American politicians cling to power and stay in office, in terms of the House of Representatives 13/435 (2.9%) are over 80, whereas in the UK only one of the 650 MPs (0.15%) in the House of Commons are 80+.

Filing paperwork to run again is pro forma. It allows them to do various things legally which only campaigns can do. It does not indicate that he plans to run again. This is a dog bites man story.

I agree. He's previously said it's unlikely he'll run again.

I remember Dianne Feinstein doing the same thing in advance of the 2024 campaign, which she obviously did not end up living long enough to see.

 

Bernie was the last Senator in the 2024 cycle to make a decision to run for re-election. I'm pretty certain this is his last term, he's not a lifer. He'll retire in his 80s like his longterm colleague Pat Leahy.
