Created the single market and set the single currency in motion. Saw significant membership expansion. As the appointed (i.e.unelected) President of the European Commission, Delors had a lot of power which he exploited to the full. The only elected position that he ever held was MEP - for less than two years before becoming Finance Minister of France. It will be fascinating to discover the size of his personal fortune.
