2 points11 teams thought Yoo Sang-chul could defy pancreatic cancer like he defied the conventional wisdom of the 2002 World Cup. They all guessed wrong. Only Book and Sir Creep retain their clean sheets, with Creep having correctly assessed YSC's survivability for two Inverses in a row. =1. Book 0 =1. Sir Creep 0 =3. An Fear Beag 2 =3. LizLemon 2 =3. 2 pointsI've stopped arguing with people about this. They believe mainstream media too much. I think things will become clearer in the future and I feel sorry for all those who were forced to take vaccine against their will.

1 pointFrith's cheery book about cricketing suicides (I thought it was called By Their Own Hand?) had a forward written by Peter Roebuck, who later jumped to his death from a hotel balcony.

1 pointQuick fag pack count (assuming TMIB's 31/12/2017 list is accurate) is 159 now. Keep at this rate and we'll have a "Who is DDP's 200th hit" thread inside 3 years...

1 pointUnless there's another book I'm unaware of, I think you may be thinking of David Frith there - Silence of the Heart is a tremendous and very moving work. Foot often wrote on troubled individuals though - some of whom, such as Harold Gimblett, did go on to take their own lives.

1 pointRobert Taylor, one of the most popular actors of his time, died of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California on this date in 1969. He was 57 years old. With him was his wife, the actress Ursula Thiess. During the final months of his life, he was hospitalized seven times due to infections and complications related to the disease. He was nicknamed "The Man with the Perfect Profile" and his film and television career spanned four decades and he appeared in nearly 80 films. At his funeral, California Governor Ronald Reagan gave the eulogy. Taylor was cremated and his ashes were interred at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. Ursula Thiess' ashes are now with his.

1 pointBelatedly spotted that the death of Charles Henry Coolidge on April 6 has yet to be acknowledged in the DDP (QO here)

1 pointYoo Sang-chul's football career presented one of the World Cup's great underdog tales, with the South Korean national team making it all the way to the semis in 2002, a feat not achieved by them before or since. Somewhat like how Norfolk & Good nearly won the DDP in 2012. Admittedly South Korea co-hosted the Cup that year, so N&G would've had to have nearly won the Norfolk Dead Pool for the analogy to fully work. Anyway, the_engineer was the only one to pick YSC as a main team pick, and scores 25 base points plus 10 bonus points for 35 total. JoeMoneypenny and theoldlady obtain 25 points from their first sub hit.

1 pointI’m in second place now after Yoo Sang-chul’s death. Only a mere 56 points behind Banana. Yep, the comeback is totally not coming...

1 pointI was sorry to learn today, by way of his Times obituary, of the death of writer David Foot late last month. I have two of his books, Wally Hammond: The Reasons Why and Beyond Bat and Ball. The first, in particular, is a masterpiece. He wrote mainly on cricketers from Somerset and Gloucestershire and his writing has a rather elegaic feel to it, which no doubt increased as he grew into old age (he was 92). After suffering a long respiratory illness, perhaps he wasn't too sorry to shuffle off to the pavilion before the appearance of The Hundred.

1 pointYoo Sang-chul is dead! I haven't had a hit in DDP for quite some time now. Nice to be back in game again.

1 pointLightly toasted, nicely done or full on charcoal burnt? Wholemeal, granary or sourdough? I think I told this story elsewhere, but ... My friend was married to an Indonesian chap, he's very dark-skinned and she's classic English rose colouring. Someone at work asked her how dark her children were, or words to that effect - I can't remember exactly how it was phrased. The next day my friend, efficient as always, brought in a Dulux paint chart. No offence was intended or taken, and we all had a laugh about it.

1 pointFirst of all, thanks to @Ulitzer95, @msc , @gcreptile and others for all that research on my "List of obscure people", which is made of people who have done what picks are not supposed to do: Survive. All were on my Deadpool list between 2006 and 2012, which explains the odd composition. Their nomination seemed logical at the time, they were chosen. And yes: this leftover ramp won't score many points, as Christa Ludwig and Prince Philip prove. But now it's here, ashes on my head! Just to show, that they are not that useless, I have checked two of them a bit furter: Unsure whether it makes this guy more useful, but Boroujerdi is not on death row anymore, his sentence was transformed into an eleven-year prison sentence. He has abandoned his status as an Ayatollah and is now something like an anti-religion activist, who advocates against organized religion. Sounds like someone who couldn't really sleep well under the eyes of the ayatollahs. This woman has not to fear an execution anymore, which increases her chances for scoring. She was released in 2014 after serving nine years on death row and has disappeared from the public eye. This reduces her chances for a qualifying obit. OK, even if my attempt to make these picks more worthy for the DDP fizzles out, I would as, if the information can be added?
