3 pointsAnother french giant hospitalized : veteran show host Michel Drucker has been hospitalized for some days now due to cardiac problem. He is 81 this year and underwent three heart sugeries in 2020. He is considered an immortal in France because of his presence for 58 years on our television. A lot of jokes on social media are often made about him being invincible and « ancient ». Here is the latest photo of actor Gerard Jugnot for example : for non french speaker : « a rare photo of Michel Drucker with a young Jeanne Calment »

2 pointsIt's 38 years since the death of Nicholas Colosanto, actor & director, best known as 'Coach' Ernie Pantusso in Cheers. He was diagnosed with heart disease in his 50s, exacerbated by 20 years of alcoholism, following which he gave up drinking, joining Alcoholics Anonymous. It became difficult to secure work owing to his declining health (his last film role being Tommy Como in 1980's Raging Bull), and he was contemplating retirement before being offered the role of Coach in Cheers. He appeared in 70 episodes over three seasons, his last being recorded in late 1984. He was admitted to hospital shortly after Christmas 1984 with water in his lungs; shortly after his discharge he died at home from a heart attack, aged 61.

1 pointChecked all my picks and all but one have a photo or relevant image. Ian Ure is the one missing a photo which surprises me as he is not some second rate footballer who played all his football in the 2nd tier in Scotland but a successful centre half winning the League title with Dundee before playing over 200 games for Arsenal in a 6 year spell then a couple of seasons at Manchester United as well as winning 8 caps for Scotland. I know photos need a particular size format but here's one which I hope is suitable

1 pointAlso, work on the photos for the first-time picks of 2023 has been finished. A big thank you to @time, @Toast, @Book, @Octopus of Odstock, @wannamaker and @Estuarian Float for their contributions. The game grew again this year, and all you people were very creative in your choices. Lots of fields are covered, lots of people from all kinds of backgrounds are included. Not everyone had a photo on the web, so occasionally we got creative, and occasionally not. If you happen to have a photo for our invisible people, feel free to tell.

1 pointAmazing how so many actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood are still holding on. Nearly all the Hitchcock Blondes are still alive (Eva Marie Saint, Tippi Hedren, Kim Novak, Vera Miles, Julie Andrews, Brigitte Auber, Barbara Leigh-Hunt etc.) ! The only main one that isn't still with us that comes to mind is Grace Kelly, and she died of unnatural causes! And then there is additional female Hollywood greats from the 1950s and 1960s who just keep going: Joanne Woodward, Angie Dickinson, Glynis Johns, Shirley Jones, Estelle Parsons, Lee Grant, Rita Moreno, Carroll Baker etc. Nearly all the main James Bond actresses and actresses from the early Herbie movies and Pink Panther movies are still alive as well! Yet, almost all the men from the Golden Age of Hollywood have long been dead.

1 pointShirley Temple died on this day 9 years ago, aged 85. - Temple was arguably the most successful child star of the 1930s. She retired from film in 1950, when she was 22 years old- but would eventually return to acting on television during the 1960s. - During the height of her popularity, detractors claimed that she was actually a 30-year old with dwarfism, that she either wore a wig or was not naturally blonde, and that she had all of her adult teeth, which were filed to look like baby teeth. - Temple ran as an independent candidate in the 1967 special election to fill California's 11th congressional seat. She received 3.5% of the vote. - Temple became a diplomat when Henry Kissinger overheard her talking about her knowledge of South West Africa (modern-day Namibia) when the two were at a party. - As Chief of Protocol of the United States (the first female one, too), she was responsible for the arrangement of Jimmy Carter's inaugural ball. - Temple was a member of the board of directors for several prominent companies, including Bank of America, UNESCO, and Disney. - Temple was not a fan of the non-alcoholic cocktail named after her, finding its taste too sweet. - Temple was a chronic smoker, but did not do it in public as she did not want to set a bad example for her fans. She died from COPD.

1 pointHe's now dodged the Grim Reaper three times: this, the cardiac arrest several years ago and back in the 70s, he was supposed to be in the car that subsequently crashed killing his manager at the time Sam Bass: also, had his car not stopped at his hamburger business, he would have been right in the middle of the crash.

1 pointNo joke, two days ago I was thinking about starting a thread for Sopranos/The Wire/Mad Men/Oz/etc actors. As a second-gen Italian, this is basically as close to a day of national mourning for me as you can imagine.
