Bob Barker was a name I had never heard until I was on this website. Whilst in the UK we consume a lot of US comedy and drama we don't tend to import game shows (if we do it is the format and not the shows themselves) However if a name comes up in discussion that I do not know I normally assume that it is my ignorance not their lack of fame and will research accordingly

Updated graph for Michael Parkinson Parkinson was another good call by the committee that wasn't on the Drop 40 or the Crowdsourced lists. This really places this hit in the bonus category and we still could have a good number of hits before the year end This year is the fourth earliest to reach 10 hits and if there is a hit before 20th September will move into third place - it is still running ahead of 2017 which was the second best result for the main list

Wonder what country Dame Angela Lansbury was from... (And because the DL tends to pick a Listers with the odd cult or wtf pick the last American name I'd genuinely never heard of was Kirk Kerkorian.)

I can't let this pass. This is quite an extraordinary statement. There is no doubt that he admired many of his guests and to a certain extent respected their boundaries. But he was the last superb chat show host for many reasons. He was a journalist rather than a comedian or personality. He did his research and knew more than he asked questions about of his guests. Back in the day, he was not averse to either deliberately or inadvertently provoking his guests - something that rarely happens now because the guests' PR team tell the host what they cannot ask. On many occasions he had people on who had nothing to promote or sell. He gave inordinate amounts of time to the guests to tell their stories. And when they stepped out of line, they looked like idiots against an interested but objective questioner. Kenneth Williams went off on one about striking workers once - Parkinson told him his opinion was utter crap. Ali really went off on one when challenged rightly I thought about the belief system - and he allowed him to do it. People queued up to be interviewed by Parkinson. With other chat shows it's a treadmill to sell their latest product with vetted questions. He wasn't perfect, lord no. But incomparable. I'd say so.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Soul singer Aretha Franklin on Thursday canceled all of her appearances until next spring on the orders of doctors. Franklin, 68, the "Queen of Soul" who famously sang at President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009, pulled out of all concert and personal appearances "at the insistence" of her doctors until May 2011, her publicist said. The decision comes on the heels of the multiple Grammy winner being released from a Detroit hospital on October 30th, where she had admitted for undisclosed reasons. "The award winning songstress sends her sincerest apologies to her loyal followers and colleagues for the canceled shows," the statement read. "Ms. Franklin is resting comfortably at home, but is very anxious to get back on the road to perform for her countless fans around the world," it added. In August, Franklin canceled two concerts after suffering a fall that left her with a couple of broken ribs...

I guess this is the general football thread (I would call it soccer but that might get me a warning point hereabouts). Here is a gruesome little story about an apparently famous footballer. https://www.news.com.au/sport/sports-life/tottenham-legend-gary-mabbutt-has-foot-eaten-by-rat/news-story/2477caf08c2793a12b75ade87b70bcfb Enjoy.

Anyone catch this Grammy's tribute to her? Her tits are lower than Emma Stone's voice these days.
