7 pointsDavid Bowie died on this day 8 years ago, aged 69. - As a child, Bowie's favorite singer was Little Richard- he once stated that he "heard God" after hearing "Tutti Frutti" for the first time. Other musical influences included Elvis Presley, Charles Mingus, and Fats Domino. - When he was 15, one of Bowie's pupils was left permanently dilated after getting into a fight with his friend, when he punched him in the eye: Contrary to popular belief, his irises were not different colors- the dilation made it seem that way. - Bowie's first band was named "Davie Jones with The King Bees"- he adopted "Bowie" as his stage name after Davy Jones of The Monkees gained worldwide fame. - Outside of music, Bowie was known for his acting roles- most notably in The Man Who Fell to Earth, the Broadway version of The Elephant Man, The Last Temptation of Christ, Lord Royal Highness in the SpongeBob episode "Atlantis SquarePantis", and most famously Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth: Bowie was also planned to have been cast as Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049- after his death, the role was given to Jared Leto. - Bowie approved of Nirvana's cover of "The Man Who Sold the World", but was annoyed that people thought the band made the original. Bowie sang his version 23 years before Kurt Cobain did: - Bowie was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2014, but kept his battle a secret- though the music video for "Lazarus" definitely caused speculation: (it was released 3 days before he died)

6 pointsDid my final round of celeb checks and could not find any missed deaths. On with the final scoreboard. It isn't the first time a deadpool showrunner has said this, nor will it be the last, but it was a well-deserved victory for @gcreptile. It was a rocky start to the year with the substitution nightmares of Pele and Pope Benny (and to a lesser extent Baba Wawa and Jeremiah Green), but the first proper hit was Frank McGarvey who took justonecornetto to an early lead. Gianluca Vialli truly opened the floodgates, and between him and two terminally-ill influencers, defending champion Banana returned to his familiar positioning at the top of the scoreboard by the month's end. However it was a marathon not a sprint, and the FFBI penalties hurt Banana in the long run. As did the two basketballers on his team, further down the road. Tim Lobinger kept him on top for the time being, but gcreptile vaulted into the contender's orbit thanks to sharing Lobinger and also hitting Tony Marshall on the same day. Ryuichi Sakamato took perennial dark horse CaptainChorizo to the top, and then amidst the triple-bonus Rolf Harris points bonanza, Perhaps also had Tim Keller to keep the competition exciting. June was a masterstroke for gcreptile, with four hits to his name - the Unabomber, Teresa Taylor, Frederic Forrest, and Daniel N. Paul - that gave him a comfortable lead, and he buttressed it with Mutulu Shakur in July. He didn't have another hit after that, but didn't need to. The distance was vast enough that no one else could close the gap despite the best efforts of Henry Kissinger. His final winning margin was a hearty 94.95 points. For a point in the summer, I thought Reptile would clinch the first clean sheet in HPDP history when James Whale and Jonnie Irwin seemed on their last legs. But that didn't pan out. Still, it was a HPDP for the history books, with five teams smashing the previous points record of 425, and Reptile the first to cross the 500-point barrier. A big part of that is Rolf Harris, and anyone who had him at base 50 points accrued 230 points from a single hit - 5 points more than previous holder Vanessa Marquez. Though Marquez will forever be the greatest HPDP pick. Rolf, you knew you had to pick him to win; Marquez, that was a comeback for the ages. The most interesting team bonus goes to arghton, who only had 10 organic points to his name thanks to Rosalynn Carter. Now he gets 20 more thanks to an intriguing assemblage that included side-by-side Onos, the Hulkster, and above all The Wizard of New Zealand. And 50 bonus points for placing in 13th go to msc. And with that, the final scoreboard. Congrats, Reptile! 1. gcreptile 567.95 2. CaptainChorizo 473 3. Perhaps 472.95 4. LizLemon 437.7 5. markb4 432.95 6. An Fear Beag 422.95 =7. MariNisia 420 =7. 4 pointsYes, that's outrageous. Biden could have put him into his DDP team if he had known it in December.

2 pointsGet me a chill pill mate, I'm burning up here.... As we all know, 90s chart regular and one of the few musicians to name themselves after a football manager who allegedly [deleted on legal reasons] Dario G is currently battling stage 4 rectal cancer. Mallorca Lee, of Ultrasonic and Public Domain, has "a matter of months" to live after being diagnosed with a terminal cancer of some sort. DJ Michael Bibi has given himself the "all clear" from CNS lymphoma, but probably worth keeping an eye on. And Matt James of Mashd N Kutcher has multiple myeloma, and doesn't sound too optimistic about his chances in interviews I've seen. Enough for a thread I'd have thought.

2 pointsThanks all! I was very proud of the Forrest/Paul two-fer. And while Rolf Harris was the "must have", Ted Kaczynski might have been the more important differential. Thank you, Death Impends for your great hosting!

2 pointsI think you may have overcounted LizLemons's points. 366 + 363 + 362 = 1091 (Sorry Liz - I'm in this to win )

2 pointsI think this medical disappearing thing happens more often than is uncovered. Trump did it himself in 2019. "Elective" means scheduled, meaning it was a non-emergency. It's hard to really tell on what level of concern this whole thing is. The Deputy Secretary took over duties but wasn't told the health reasons why for 3 days; also reports saying she was on "foreign" travel were false as she was in America (Puerto Rico). I get the press being confused by this story but it seems they kicked up some falsehoods to create more controversy. A bigger military deal to me was what "Coach" Tuberville did holding up promotions for the past year, in order to block women's healthcare rights. Look at his state's newborn syphilis and maternal death rates; his policies drive doctors out of states and they drive people out of the military. Just my perspective as an actual American who was a military kid and had no choice in what shitty state we lived in. I doubt Biden will try to replace Secretary Austin anyway; the Senate has been holding up the Labor seat for months, and it just had to be renewed.

2 pointsNo. They can't prove its drugs or suicide because there were no drugs in her system (the length in time in which it took her cause of death to come out is very consistent for a toxicology report). And tons of people drop dead from heart attacks at that age. Luke Perry was 4 years younger than her when he had his fatal stroke. Lance redbrick wasn't much older than Sinead either when he had his fatal heart attack out of the blue. BTW if the coroner can't determine a cause of death then it's marked inconclusive. They wouldn't mark it natural causes unless he found something that lead him to conclude that.

2 pointsI was told under strict confidentiality to not say anything about his case. I don't know why, but I'm respecting what I was told

2 pointsTo be fair, I was born in 1996 but on a tired, cold, hungover morning could probably pass as a 114yo.
