10 pointsApologies for the length of time this verification has taken but there were a flurry of late entries and work has been quite busy However I can now reveal all the picks (See page 1) Here is a summary for those who like their statistics Total Number of Teams is 27 The Simpsons - 50 Picks (24 Uniques) - Most popular pick - James Earl Jones Political Spouses - 57 Picks (27 Uniques) - Most popular pick - Marita Camacho Quiros Ivor Novello - 59 Picks (30 Uniques) - Most popular pick - Don Black Football - 60 Picks (32 Uniques) - Most popular pick - Denis Law Batman Films - 46 Picks (18 Uniques) - Most popular pick - Michael Caine & Lee Merriweather There have been no hits up to now that I am aware of We are now in the checking phase two categories have been really hard to verify - Ivor Novello and Batman. I have tried hard to be consistent and accurate but I admit I may have made some mistakes. If any one wishes to challenge any of the entries (some people have successfully defended my challenges to eligibility during verification) then please do so (with evidence) and if I have made the mistake I will swap the offending pick for their sub. If no sub is in place they will be asked to pick again but they will not be able to pick an already selected unique pick Thank you everyone who has played and we will see if this lasts into 2026

3 pointsOnly looked at the Simpsons so far, but all 27 players have 5 picks apiece with the correction for Commtech Sio Bibble. So far, so good!

3 pointsFeels weird seeing "yiff in hell furfags" talk. It's like I stepped back into 2005.

3 pointsRight now three A-listers are in hospital after being in & out for months. Many things in common between them, all nonagenarians and all top level denialists. 1)LK Advani: Deputy PM and Home Affairs minister of India, highest civil honour Bharat Ratna (which is very very rare), controversial enemy of Muslim, BBC QO guaranteed. Soon 97, hospitalised twice in July, now back in a neurological ward. Every time he is "stable and about to be discharged". 2)Sam Nujoma: 95-year old founding father of Namibia, nowadays much hated in the country. Hospitalised twice in May, rumours he was circling the drain, unable to attend his sister's funeral, now has been in hospital for weeks but he's always "well" or "recovering". 3)Silvio Santos: soon 94-year old Brazilian TV presenter, and allegedly the most famous person in Brazil. Also the former father in law of Alexandre Pato. Reportedly in declining health for years, was hospitalised with H1N1 last month and now back with a bacterial infection. It's always routine check-ups for the family and he ahs never been this good. How long before they are all discharged? Wonder if Mahathir will join the party.

2 pointsYeah this has definitely given me the capacity to believe. There are wars raging all around the world with no signs of coming to an end, but if there was one threat above all it was people dressing in animal costumes and seeing the death of one of the prominent figures within this subculture has left me thoroughly convinced that there is a benevolent god out there.

1 pointWell, I’ll make a bold prediction that I will finish above 0 hits this time. Not too many uniques although I’m a bit surprised I got one with Darryl Strawberry.
-
1 pointRudy Giuliani unique pick, let's go! Edit: Did I create some Aldrin-mentum? Though I guess he would have been a popular pick regardless. One of the most iconic guest spots probably.
-
1 pointI think I understood what happened here was that I rejected one of your initial picks and promoted a sub but when Bob Newhart died I had forgotten about the pick rejection and just reused your sub. However I can verify you did send me Thomas Pynchon's name as an additional sub which I should have used Will correct the masterlist

1 pointUnderstanding the Problem: We need to find the time taken for sound to travel from lane 1 to lane 9 on an athletics track. We'll assume the starting gun is fired at the beginning of lane 1. Key Information: Speed of sound: Approximately 343 meters per second in air at room temperature. Distance between lanes: Typically, 1 meter. Number of lanes to consider: 8 (from lane 1 to lane 9). Calculation: Total distance: 8 lanes * 1 meter/lane = 8 meters. Time taken: Distance / Speed = 8 meters / 343 meters/second ≈ 0.0233 seconds. Therefore, it would take approximately 0.0233 seconds for the sound of the starting gun to travel from lane 1 to lane 9. Note: This is a very simplified calculation and assumes ideal conditions. Factors like temperature, humidity, and wind can affect the speed of sound. The actual perception of the sound by athletes might be influenced by other factors, such as the angle of the sound waves, noise levels, and individual hearing abilities. It took me a little over 0.005 of a second to stuff your query into some AI which then came up with a far better answer than I did using my fingers and limited mental capacity. It was an interesting question to be sure. And yes, it would make a difference by the look of it.

1 pointVery minor thing, on the list of picks for Simpsons actors, you've got my initials (cb) twice for James Earl Jones and 0 times for Thomas Pynchon.

1 pointThe Democrats are on quite a roll right now. Though the moderates preferred Shapiro, there would have been some potential issues with him, and Walz was the "safe" choice. He comes across as a jovial, grandfatherly type (even though he's only 60 and even though he's looked much older than his age since his 30's), and he has a folksy, and, yes, maybe a bit of a hokey style. But it's no-nonsense and he goes right to the heart of the issues as he sees them, pulling no punches, and I think that will play will in large swaths of the country and certainly in the Midwest. And he's funny, too. Shapiro is a brilliant orator (almost Obama-like, and he's drawn those comparisons), but perhaps Walz's style will lend itself well to this campaign. It's almost been a 10-point turnaround in the polls since Biden dropped out and now that Harris is the candidate. Not even an assassination attempt could create a long-lasting bump for Trump. His RNC convention speech was a horrific mess and it's gone off the rails for them since then. Of course, there's still time for it to swing back to him if Harris looks terrible in interviews, but I don't expect her to look worse than him if they actually debate. Frankly, I don't see how that's even possible. Some betting markets actually have Harris favored now; I see that she's getting 55 cents on the dollar on PredictIt, for example. Some still have Trump as a very slight favorite, but considering that Trump was -310 just three weeks ago, yeah, this has been quite the turnaround for the Democrats. They've just been galvanized since Biden dropped out.

1 pointMaurice Williams reportedly dead aged 84: I believe a pick for @Death Impends on the DDP in 2022, whether he survived a cull is for them. Edit: Checked and still a pick for the DDP.

1 pointGame 4: June 2021-November 2022 OK, this update has some interesting information, including some incredibly bad luck for one of the 18 players in Game 4. But we’ll get to that! Since this is the game before the current one concluded, I’ll discuss everything that happened since I won in November 2022, with the death of Jennifer’s dad, John Aniston (Star Trek Actors). A month later, Toast scored with the death of Gordy Giovanelli (Olympic Gold Medallists), which gave her a hit in All 5 Categories and have her 2nd place, the third time she has finished on a Scavenger Hunt podium without winning one! ☹ The podium positions were completed in February 2023 when Greta Andersen (Olympics) died, a third Unique Pick for @gcreptile! The death of Nigel Lawson in April 2023 was a big one, only the third death in the Cabinet Ministers category, which allowed msc, Death Impends and Spade Cooley all to cross the finish line in joint-4th with a hit in All 5 Categories, while gcreptile became the first person to complete twice over by the same method! Now, to the minor controversy: In May 2023, it was announced that Japanese gold medal winning boxer Osamu Watanabe had died. This was a hit for @Captain Hemlock, via 3 Unique Picks, and made him the 7th person to formally finish. However, he is incredibly unlucky, because the same article (in Japanese) states that he died on October 1st, 2022, it had only come to light in May through a relative. By the rules of the game, no announcement means no score, but if it had been announced in October, he would have beaten me to the win by over a month! It would have come just 11 days after he moved into a winning position with his second Unique Pick too! Sorry, Captain! Over the next month, 4 more people completed the game. The death of Cabinet Minister Peter Brooke in May made @Perhaps the 8th finisher with a hit in All 5 Categories, and another Cabinet Minister John Morris’s demise in early June allowed @BuffaloPhil and former champion Banana to finish in joint-9th position by the same method. And a week later, Great Uncle Bulgaria completed via the same method with the demise of Pulitzer Prize Winner Cormac McCarthy, finishing 11th. The death of Sheldon Harnick in June completed my Pultizer Prize category, meaning I completed for a second time, becoming the second after gcreptile to do so, and msc completed the double completion podium when Henry Kamm died the following month, his final Pulitzer Prize Winner to fall. January this year saw @DeathByArsenic finish 12th with the death of his third Unique Pick Daniel Revenu (Olympians) before Banana completed for a second time in February with Kenneth Mitchell’s demise (Star Trek) – his third Unique Pick. World Series Winner Carl Erskine’s death in April was a first hit in the Baseball category for both Bibliogryphon and @arghton, and put them both over the top in Game 4 in joint-13th place, while his fellow World Series Winner Willie Mays departed in June to make Captain Chorizo the 15th person to complete Game 4. Just a fortnight ago, the death of actor James Sikking (Star Trek) was a third Unique Pick for Toast, and she completed for a second time! And we’re done! Nobody has yet completed all 3 methods of victory, but 5 players have won twice and 15 of the 23 who entered have concluded the round one way or another. That leaves 8 players yet to complete. @MariNisia needs one of their 5 Olympians (Agnes Keleti, Greg Louganis, Aleksandr Medved, Takashi Ono and Mark Spitz) to pass, or else one of their 7 Unique Picks – either would win one way or another. Time needs one of his 5 Uniques (Joanna Miles, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, Franco de Piccoli, Judy Grinham and John Gummer) to cark to be victorious. Chilean Way needs one of their 5 Cabinet Ministers to die but they’ve not picked too well there, needing one of Gordon Brown, Charlie Falconer, James Mackay, John Prescott and Gillian Shepard to win, and there are far dodderier former ministers than those. An Fear Beag needs one of his 4 Olympic Gold Medallists to win (Opening Ceremony star Charles Coste, Agnes Keleti, Eric Lamaze or Koji Murofushi – unfortunately, his 5th pick, Vasily Borisov, died before the game started it has since been discovered, so is ineligible). The remaining 4 players need a bit more help. @GuyFromFuture needs 1 Gold Medallist and 1 Cabinet Minister, as does Young Willz and The Old Lady is not a sports fan, as she needs 1 Olympian and 1 Baseball, while Yorkshire Banker is in need of a fair bit of help, having just 2 hits so far, but they are at least in 2 different categories, so they need a Cabinet Minister, a Baseball player and a Star Trek actor to win – obviously ones they’ve picked, though, otherwise…well…you know. Most Hits so far in Game 4 belongs to msc, with 16 Hits, closely followed by 4 players on 15 (Death Impends, Toast, Perhaps and Banana). Most productive category in this round has been Olympic Gold Medallists (22), followed by Star Trek Actors (19), World Series Winners (18) and Pulitzer Prize Winners (16). There have, incredibly, only been 4 chosen Cabinet Ministers die since the game began – they’re stubborn buggers! Game 5: January 2023-June 2024 Don’t think anybody else has died since William Russell (Coronation Street Actors) put Buffalo Phil over the top at the start of June, so nobody else has yet completed!
