Alexey Navalny

You need to reverse your logic. You could bump the guy off the second he returns, when he's all over the news and a cause celebre with the west. Or you could wait. You're a dictator, you have the luxury of time. Give it a few years, let the interest wane, move him to increasingly remote prisons far from anyone who cares. Then one day, you quietly dispose of him.

Which approach would you take?

He has had 4 years of using court appearances/social media to attack Putin and his regime, built up his fan base

If I had been Putin and wanted him out of the way I would have killed him couple of weeks after arriving back in Russia, his body weak after all the novichok/treatment, a heart attack in his weakened state would be entirely credible and plausible, would be lot easier to spin than this plus 4 years of Navalny building his fanbase through social media

I'm honestly surprised he lived this long, Russia had so many chances to just off him the moment he returned to Russia and they chose NOW? You couldn't just off him while he was on his hunger strike?

Jailed extremist, MH17 bomber and Putin critic Igor Girkin is unlikely to see out his four year sentence IMO.  A unique pick and joker for DDP high flyers A Pelican in the Wilderness.

Article here about some other incarcerated Russian troublemakers who probably eye their daily gruel with some suspicion.

Caught up with the documentary from 2022 (the BBC re-showed it last night on Storyville, following his death). A very brave man, who will hopefully be remembered in a more positive future for Russia.

On the BBC’s liveblog:

- Navalny’s body being hidden. Penal colony says it went to the morgue. Morgue says they haven’t received any bodies from the penal colony. Authorities say they won’t release it until investigation complete, but nobody saying they have the body.

- Navalny’s mother told he died of sudden death syndrome. Yet Russia still wanting to complete an investigation into the cause of death.

Is this enough to now start tipping it to an unnatural death for DDP bonus?

Seems pretty obvious to me he was poisoned either by a drink or something in his food, the authorities are probably waiting for all traces of poison to disappear before releasing the corpse

There is no proof when he died, how he died, or if he has actually died.

He was fine when his mother visited him on Tuesday and he was fine when he was shown on video for his court appearance the day before he died so whatever it was it was pretty sudden, unlikely to be a sudden heart attack without anyone else being involved at his age, poisoned or injected with a drug that killed him adds up

Imprisoned dissident yes, but I wouldn't say counterpart. Barely any previous news on him on the English internet. Tikhanovsky is most like the Belarusian Navalny, the most major imprisoned dissident there.

Who's next? Hopefully someone from the other side, Vlad the wannabe-czar or any of his minions or supporters. Especially his influential fans in the West - Carlson, Musk, Kim Dotcom, many others. Sacks of shit.

Alexei Navalny's mother was given an ultimatum. Either she agrees within three hours to a secret funeral without a public farewell, or Alexei will be buried in a colony, Ivan Zhdanov said.

A small excursion into history [association, extrapolation] necessary to understand the situation

Quote

Top secret

To the Minister of State Security of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics Colonel-General

Comrade V.S. Abakumov

Report

I report that the prisoner Wallenberg who is well-known to you, died suddenly in his cell this night, probably as a result of a heart attack or heart failure. Pursuant to the instructions given by you that I personally have Wallenberg under my care, I request approval to make an autopsy with a view to establishing cause of death.

Head of the prison sanitary unit colonel of medical service

17.07.1947 Smoltsov A.

I have personally notified the minister and it has been ordered that the body be cremated without autopsy.

Alexei’s body was given to his mother. Thank you very much to everyone who demanded this with us. While Lyudmila Ivanovna is in Salekhard. The funeral is yet to come. We don’t know whether the authorities will interfere with carrying them out the way the family wants and as Alexey deserves. We will provide information as it becomes available.
