13. Nigel Starmer-Smith

Recommended Posts

I hadn't heard of him before reading about him here but he's a very good pick. Advanced frontotemporal dementia, can't walk or talk, has trouble eating and looks awful in recent pictures. Poor guy.

Who posted that picture? You're responsible for this! But then, Nigel is on my DDP team as well.

That was me. And nice as it would be to have inspired a DL pick, I suspect Nigel was on their radar long before!

For the record, here he is chatting about rugby a few years ago:

And this was him just before Christmas:

I have a good idea who you are! If I could be arsed, I'd edit it in one of DL's favourite meme templates

Your signature gives it away, Kenny boy.

I have no idea who this guy is but this has to be the most stereotypical British name ever.

And I wholeheartedly predict he will be the next hit of this year.

Does he have one of the most modest Wikipedia pages ever for a DeathList entry? His biography isn't very long (no personal life, childhood??), there's only 3 references, 2 of which are for the same damn site. And there's that unsightly box right above the article text basically whining that it ain't up to scratch.:unsure::unsure:

Are we sure he is even alive? Could be have headed off to Dingitas under the radar, for example?

He'd QO in every major UK paper and news outlet. No chance he goes under the radar.

Ffs, I was hoping that this thread would make it two years without an update, maybe a record for a deathlist pick. So close.

Sorry dude, I actually hadn't thought of that. :o I do like the sentiment of such a record happening organically. I'm sure there will be other opportunities, as I'm sure the committee will pick a lot of dullards in the future.

He's commentated at Olympic Games and Rugby World Cups for the BBC and ITV not a chance he goes under the radar

is this man really famous in the UK ? reading his topic now and checking his wiki page, I can't tell if he's an A-celeb or if he will get major covering everywhere…

I cant think of any other pick who has had a smaller wiki page than him , is there one ?

Guaranteed obit in every uk news site/newspaper.On a slow news day might get a BBC Breaking news notification.Won`t get a big segment on televised news though.

Sandy Gall's is shorter by WP standards (952 characters of prose vs. Starmer-Smith's 1426).

Does the BBC Sport app count for you, if they do a breaking news notification?

I thought he was like, Keir Starmer's dad. And I had read the wiki too; it's just one of those that had no hook for me to keep me remembering.

Similarly, the name first registered to me in late 2021 when I saw him as a pick on several PMed Hartlepool Deadlypool teams. Piers Corbyn was a cult pick at the time, so I thought to myself "huh, two Labour leaders in a row have an unwell brother?"

What's the latest news anyone has heard about him? Wasn't he dying in 2021 and then nothing...
