It's very obvious that she is after suffering a stroke instead of shingles. One side of her face is the exact same expression in every picture taken today and she only moves one hand in each picture.

I'm not sure, shingles quite often results in partial facial paralysis especially when the patient is vulnerable. She doesnt look like she could survive a stroke.

Perhaps with the exception of most of the candidates for her senate seat as Newsom would handpick one of them (Barbara Lee?) as her replacement. Even more so as there has only been one open senate seat in California for the last 30 years.

 

Imagine spending millions on a senate campaign only for the old senator to pass away and your opponent being chosen to fill her seat and essentially being able to stay in the senate for the next 30 years!

Yeah my dad had the shingles last year, resulting in not being able to raise one arm for months. Good thing he's not in the Hitler Youth.

Damn, I hadn't seen these pictures until just now.  It's actually quite sad.  She looks incredibly frail and gaunt, and is a must for the '24 DL if she's still with us at that time.  It's also worth noting that her husband died in February of 2022 (this was her third marriage; the first ended in quick divorce and her second husband died of colon cancer in 1978), and they had been married since 1980.
