Hartnell 1999 89 Posted July 23, 2023 We’ve seen how huge an impact the death of a global A-list celebrity can be if they passed suddenly in tragic circumstances, from wall to wall media coverage to endless social media posts and masses mourning at once. The country practically shut down upon announcement that Princess Diana had died in a tragic car accident, while untimely deaths of superstars such as Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain and Michael Jackson have had a similar cultural impact on society. With this in mind, if you could pick any A-list celebrity alive today and one of them died suddenly tomorrow, who do you think would receive the most widespread media coverage and public outpouring?

ladyfiona 2,616 Posted July 23, 2023 David Attenborough. Twitter would think it was a joke at first because he is trending every other week because people think he's died.

The Immortal 636 Posted July 24, 2023 Depends. A non natural cause of death such as a plane/train/car crash, murder, suicide, overdose, freak accident and so on are far more likely to receive more media coverage due to the circumstances of the death, compared to a natural death like a long or diagnosed terminal illness even if the A-List celebrity affected is young. An event which ends up with multiple celebrities dead, usually a plane/train/car crash, war, terrorism/mass murder or a large scale accident (natural disaster, building collapse etc.) will be a lot more shocking than a single celebrity's death. Between one world famous celebrity compared to say a whole band or sports team dying at once, the latter will in majority of the cases receive more coverage. Although in mass casualty events such as a natural disaster/terror attack, the event itself will receive more coverage than any celebrities involved, particularly if they aren’t A-listers. Car and plane crashes on the other hand are more likely to focus on the celebrities themselves if they make up most of the death toll.

The UK? Did it? I remember going out for a pint on Sunday, same as every other Sunday, and to work as usual on Monday. Shops were open as usual, cinemas & theatres were still open, the buses and trains still ran. There were some alterations to TV schedules, but that's about it as far as I recall. But, to answer the question, maybe Lady Gaga or Paul McCartney, but I'm so out of touch it'll probably be some tiktok 'celebrity' I've never heard of.
