Because if my husband was about to drop dead I wouldn't let myself be papped wearing a Santa hat and doing the Tesco shop.

TO KILL A GABOR SISTER 2024

Jonnie Irwin - JOKER
Brian Barczyk
Theo Burrell
Rob Burrow
Frank Caprio
Jimmy Carter
Graham Caveney
Noam Chomsky
Simon Cowell (wildlife)
Derek Draper
Frank Field
Toni Hilland
Joye Lee-McNelis
Steve McMichael
Bruce Murray (Home and Away)
Michael Parenti
Esther Rantzen
Jason Smith (councillor)
Michael Tilson Thomas
James Whale

subs:
Patrick Murray
Joe Doering
Dikembe Mutombo

Really wanted to find room for Patrick Murray but I had no shortlist deaths post-Ryan Minor... meanwhile last year when I was struggling to come up with enough good names, a bunch of them died right before the starting line and my team got even shittier.

Thought I had good research this year but apparently not as I totally missed Craig Maxwell and a few other obvious names.

Michael Parenti probably my only unique possibility, 90-year-old Marxist academic - there've been murmurs on leftist Twitter for years about his dementia. Except I just now realized he actually has been mentioned on the forum once or twice . Still, never picked in the DDP. Besides that, Joye Lee-McNelis probably the only other name on less than 5 teams.

Unpersons

My regular theme team of Big Brother UK housemates (including Celebrity Big Brother housemates – in fact, this year, only including Celebrity Big Brother housemates). 9th year in the DDP.

Last year's position on the team is given in brackets, where applicable.

This team had no hits in 2023. Dropped from the team are: Andrew Tate (3), Paddy Doherty (11), Danniella Westbrook (12), Farrah Abraham (14), Stephen Bear (15), Marco Pierre White Jr. (16), Angie Bowie (18), and Michael Madsen (19).

Special:RandomInCategory/Living_people

My regular theme team in which I open 4000 random Wikipedia articles in the category 'Living people', and then whittle them down to the 20 who I believe are most likely to be hits this year. 4th year in the DDP.

Names are presented as they are in their Wikipedia article titles, bracketed segments included; nevertheless, given the broad range of claims to fame, I've included an extra column to clarify what they're known for.

1. Artem Chekh Ukrainian soldier
2. Mohammed al-Houthi Former Houthi leader of Yemen, Supreme Political Council member
3. Syed Salahuddin Head of Hizbul Mujahideen in Kashmir
4. John Ashton (musician) Psychedelic Fur
5. John Laws Australian shock jock
6. John Farnham He's the Voice
7. Jon Blake (author) British children's author
8. Tom Brokaw American news anchor
9. Pat Buchanan American conservative figurehead
10. Charles Kay British actor (Amadeus, Fortunes of War)
11. 22Gz Brooklyn drill rapper
12. Sergio Brown American footballer/alleged murderer
13. Anne Dickson Unionist Party of Northern Ireland leader 1976-81
14. Claire Palley First female law professor in Britain, principal of St. Anne's College 1984-91
15. Gary Burton American jazz vibraphonist
16. Brian St. Clair American drummer (Triple Fast Action, Local H)
17. Vera Sharav Israel-based antivaxxer
18. Vardis Vardinogiannis Greek billionaire
19. Viktor Rashnikov Russian billionaire
20. Bedros Kirkorov

Russian singer/Russian singer's dad

This team had one hit in 2023: Mike Nussbaum (17). Another, Melker Schörling, died without a valid obit. Given the nature of the team, all 18 survivors have been dropped for this year.

Bang goes my hopeful unique for Marlon Jackson!!!

Can someone help me out here.

I disallowed Bruce Murray in the Hare's Pool, on the basis that he is just a cameraman i.e. no real claim to fame.

However, now I see that he is a popular DDP pick (and presumably allowed)

So what have I missed? I can't have stricter criteria in the Hares than in the DDP!

Ummm he is the best damn camera grip in the entire Soap Industry.  They call him the Wayne Gretzky of Gripping. He revolutionized the way Production decided to hold a camera.

Should be noted that I'm still working on entering teams, so just because somebody has posted their teams does not mean everyone they submitted was accepted. Nobody has been notified of any specific disqualifications unless you had so many that you required more subs.

Aye, and I'll out myself for a clumsy entry - despite decades of doing this it's a good idea to put the team name on the f'king sheet - sorry!

DDP Tofoa

1    Jonnie Irwin (Joker)
2    Esther Rantzen
3    Frank Field
4    James Whale
5    Simon Cowell
6    Linda Nolan
7    Shannen Doherty
8    Dolph Lundgren
9    Rob Burrow
10    Stephen Darby
11    Steve McMichael
12    Dario G
13    Patrick Murray
14    Derek Draper
15    Theo Burrell
16    Toby Keith
17    Pope Francis
18    Tom Baker
19    Bruce Willis
20    Jimmy Carter

Really little time for research, but I have faith in finishing top 15 for fifth year in a row.

As I see, Lundgren, Darby, Dario G, Pope Francis and Bruce Willis are not too popular names by top dogs, so my success mainly depends on them going.

Beginning to think Julie Walters was a wasted pick but I submitted early to get it off my plate. I might be surprised.

Ill use this as an example of what not to do.

Please don’t move the joker designator and please do put your joker in the top cell. This spreadsheet is set up to so that I can copy and paste straight into the entry file.

I would have thought the names in the wrong order and with a comma between them would have been the main pisser in that entry.
