Mark Eric (real name Mark Malmborg) made one album in the late 60s that's become cultish to the point of just getting its third 21st century reissue and it's getting airplay already on the back of this year's vinyl release. He made other stuff but this album is the metaphorical money-shot, backed by members of the famous Wrecking Crew and accurately described IMHO as sounding like what a Brian Wilson solo set would have sounded like in 1969. But I was always mystified by the commercial failures of Gene Clark, Nick Drake and Emitt Rhodes, so there are exceptions that 'prove' my rule. Pop success is definitely a funny old game. I guess Mark Eric missed the sunshine hippie zeitgeist by a couple of years. From 67 to 69 was an aeon in pop terms. Talking of obscure albums with Wrecking Crew participation, I have a soft spot for Shaun Harris's (only) S/T effort. Lyrically suicide-inspired soft rock, yowza! Surprised there isn't a general Queen thread yet, and he does have his own thread, but seems it's likely to fit better here as seems to be where most (sporadic) updates come. Anyway, John Deacon is described as 'fragile' by Roger Taylor, who says they haven't spoken in nearly 20 years. I knew he was reclusive, so don't know how much more 'fragile' he is.
