The fallen Lib Dem Chris Huhne may soon be jailed for perverting the course of justice. He won't be the first MP for Eastleigh to do a bit of chokey :ninja:

Sudden death and no suspicious etc etc. for a divorced bloke who lost his beloved dad and his long-held parliamentary seat within a few weeks.

So, I'm thinking probs suicide then.

Really sad if it is.

One of the few decent politicians out there IMHO.

Heart attack is what I've heard so far, but I could understand the topping theory.

Seriously, I hope it was a heart attack. And alcohol, underlying stress and being Scottish are all factors in other cases.

He lived in Fort William - could have been the football team...

Back in the day, I supported his party. The one he led was more left leaning, he certainly was a character and he was steeped in Scotland. He made no secret of his distaste for the Coalition and far less some of the policies his party supported whilst in Government. RIP Charles, this will be one of the big shocks of the year.

He was the sort of politician who 'ordinary' people could relate to. I was always a bit suspicious about Menzies Campbell motives and role in his removal as leader. This seemed to be more about his reputation internally within the party rather than what the electorate thought of him.

He never recriminated publically though. A man of integrity.

I am put in mind of John Whittingdale's comments about FIFA "Shocked, but not surprised"

Sad day.

Weird, I swear I was watching him on Question Time only a few weeks back.

Glad to see he's doing better now though.

His dad died just over a month ago, that and losing his seat a couple of weeks later would have tipped him over the edge.

Shame. I liked him. He wasn't full of shit like most politicians. He was full of whiskey...

My first thought was suicide too but it's just as likely to be heart I guess. He always seemed like one of the more relatable politicians, so this has made me quite sad. I hope nothing horrible comes out about him now.

For the sake of Deathlist relevance, what about this scenario: in the absence of any other contender, Cyril Smith comes out of retirement and successfully challenges Charlie for the leadership, then dies from all the effort, handing points to Rude Kid on the DDP?

Incidentally, why was Cyril never made a Lord. Is it because Lords are not supposed to live in their mum's old terraced house in Lancashire?

no its because theyr'e not supposed to fuck children.officially

Poor old Charlie - one of the few politicians I've ever had time for. If it is suicide, then it's all Clegg's fault for fucking his ultra-safe seat.
