Sir Creep 7,070 Posted January 18, 2021 Meh - seems like it belongs here, but I'll crosspost. Journalist David Birtill, former Lancashire Telegraph reporter and sub-editor who became the best known golf correspondent in the North of England, has died in hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 79. SC

Forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but he shared on Twitter just now that not only is today his 64th wedding anniversary, but that his wife, Vivienne, has been fighting cancer. Jack is starting to resemble me in swing, distance off the tee and waistline - I reckon I could take him over 18 holes of match play. He’s only about 25 years older too. I remember many years ago Player advocating a healthy diet and rigorous daily workout which he has maintained to this day. It has obviously paid off.
Deathrace 1,170 Posted April 10, 2021 Talking of the Masters, there's some old former winners still going: 1956 winner Jack Burke (born 1923) 1961, 1974 & 1978 winner Gary Player (born 1935) 1968 winner Bob Goalby (born 1929) 1971 winner Charles Coody (born 1937) 1973 winner Tommy Aaron (born 1937) As we have said, Player looks in rude health but the others might be worth watching out for.

I'm guessing he'd be the first Major winner to make it to 100 if he hangs on two years. Tom Watson probably holds the record total for shooting rounds under his age, at least from the pro ranks. Or maybe Player does now, though I think Watson will overtake him. Langer will be doing so soon.
