Rupert Murdoch

Recommended Posts

On the 27th April episode of ‘The Rest is Politics’ podcast Alastair Campbell revealed that he had recently participated in the preparation of an obituary for Rupert Murdoch which concluded with them being asked if overall he was a force for good or for bad.

Apparently this is a common thing now with public figures but the most high profile example I remember of this recently was the Queen and it appeared she wasn't around very much longer after the interviews took place.

That always been a thing wouldn't necessarily read too much into. Probably just updating Murdoch's one given everything that's gone on in recent years

Just had a Le Monde breaking News beginning by « Rupert Murdoch… ». Thought he was dead. Anyway, they’re planning his succession. Put him on the list next year, he’s famous enough and old enough

I heard his son Lachlan is currently in line to be the successor, and is already heavily involved in the operations of NewsCorp and Fox. He's also seen as more extreme than his father, which must be really bad considering how extreme Rupert already is. Another problem he might pose is if the UK ever manages to bring in a law banning foreign media ownership, unless a rule is brought in banning dual nationality ownership, Lachlan can still own media in the UK (having been born here) as well as the US and potentially Australia as well.

Some men (and women) are incapable of living alone. Maybe he'll die if he is forced to spend a week alone without a woman at his side.

Fucking hell, these thread bumps are so disappointing. Where's his fatal brain haemorrhage? It's been in the fucking post.

He says he's in robust health but he always struck me as someone only the Reaper would retire.

I've wondered for a while if Murdoch was any kind of inspiration for the unretireable Mr Burns. One of the best gags ever in The Simpsons is the revelation of how Mr Burns continues in rude health and fit (or as fit as he'll ever be) to manage a nuclear power station. The gist being that despite being over 100 he suffers from "Three Stooges Syndrome" a condition whereby he has a collection of terminal diseases all lining up to kill him but their continued efforts to break through and deliver their killer blow is hampered because every other disease is also trying to get through - consequently, they collide like the Three Stooges for whom a standard gag was that they all tried to get through the same door at the same time, meaning they got stuck.

IMO no-one alive today has done more damage to the world as a whole than this one individual.

Tony Blair, George Bush.  But maybe you are right. He gave them the publicity to say they were right.

Yes there are plenty of individuals/world leaders who've done very bad things, but Murdoch has controlled media that ensured those individuals gained/held power in the first place, some of the bad things they did were also done because Murdoch made them conditional for his support, and also demonised anyone who tried to reveal the truth about them.

Beyond Parody.

Indeed there is an interesting  newspaper  column on your very point. Part of Rupert Murdochs legacy is the powerful increasingly blame 'the elite'  for the worlds problems. Utter cognitive dissonance in my humble opinion but many fall for this nonsense contradiction.

I think Mr Burns is Jacob Rothschild.

Rothschild does bare a striking resemblance to Mr Burns however the Simpson's has been going on for so long that Rothschild was a mere 53 when Mr Burns was created as a character so seems unlikely.

That's Anna Nicole levels of hustling. I wonder if she's going to be the one who wins Murdoch's jackpot?
