Canadian Paul 97 Posted August 28, 2008 Gene Colan - American comic book artist, dying of liver failure. Uh... or attending comic book conventions... quite a step up from being almost dead in May... I'll wait to see if he actually makes the convention before I take him off the list...
Phantom 2,533 Posted September 7, 2008 Jennifer Jones, I think she could be a good bet. I dont believe she has been mentioned before. She will be 89 next year, and as an Oscar winner she is certainly famous enougth. Seeing as Deathlist usually has one or two ancient HollyWood luminaries on the list, why not take a punt on her. I really hope instead of Olivis Dehavilland the list features either Gloria Stuart, Luise Rainer, Phyllis Diller, Maureen Ohara, Lena Horne or Jona Fontaine. Jane Wyman was really a missed opportunity this year! Btw can anyone thing of any more famous Hollywood actresses still alive from the thirties or fourties, who are over 85! Off the top of my Anita Page is the obvious one, there's also Jane Russell, Katherine Grayson, Deanna Durbin. Nova Pilbeam though I'm not convinced about her. Removed four deceased individuals... only did a brief scan, so let me know if I missed any. Will update this list with new names probably next weekend. themaninblack 2,112 Posted November 19, 2008 Six weeks to go and there's been little discussion on what should/would be on the Deathlist 2009. I mean, it's kind of the point of this forum isn't it? You could point to the Ideas and Possibilities thread, but that's now a rolling news module on the sick and dying, not actual debate on who should or shouldn't be on the list. And I suspect there's a few cards placed on chests with the DDP also set for renewal on the same day. I'm going to start the ball rolling on some genuine possibles, bearing in the mind the criteria for DL. Godfrey Rampling (b. 1909) - Father of actress Charlotte and the oldest living Olympic Gold Medalist (1936 4x400m relay) Kim Il Jong (b. 1941) - Suspiciously photographed North Korean dictator. Nancy Reagan (b. 1921) - a better bet than Betty Ford I would say at this time... Patrick Swayze (b. 1955) - chances not great, although he's bearing well. Edwin Morgan (b. 1920) - Scottish Poet Laureate. Has had Prostate Cancer for years Norman Wisdom (b. 1915) - Suffering from Dementia, 94 in February... Banshees Scream 110 Posted November 19, 2008 Dear TMIB: I hate you man! You stole my idea! Nah, it's alright. I was going to create a thread with a poll involving all of the prime candidates but you beat me to it. I will endorse the following names: Senator Ted Kennedy Patrick Swayze Corazon Aquino Johannes Heesters Peter Quaife General Jaruzelski Robert Sargent Shriver Vo Nguyen Giap Annette Funicello Gough Whitlam Phyllis Diller Václav Havel Edwin Morgan Chuck Berry Allain Robert Robert Novak Than Shwe These are all Deathlist material. Lard Bazaar 3,799 Posted November 19, 2008 I hate to drop this bombshell, but I agree with Banshees on Swayze and Diller.

Godot 149 Posted November 19, 2008 I would add: Lena Horne and Walter Cronkite, stick with Lom and Douglas but get rid of Russell Watson - he's been a big disappointment this year. Bill Pertwee could be worth a shot to keep Clive Dunn company. Of course I would also like to see Mollie Sugden there. I like DDT's names. I don't think Rampling is big enough for the DL and I don't think much to having a Kink on the list.

Other suggestions I would make Helmut Schmidt Bettie Page Sir John Mortimer Alan Sillitoe Richard Kiel George Blake
Monoclinic 39 Posted November 19, 2008 Unless I am missing the point here, I thought the deathlist was all about the committee completely ignoring everyone's random suggestions and going ip dip dog sh*t on the beer fuelled night in question that such a list might be drawn up. Maybe the lack of discussion is a sign people have decided to just let those founding fathers from Warwick* still in contact to do, what is after all, "their thang". But if you could see your way clear to putting Any one Pompey fan on the list, I'd be ecstatic. They are famous. Famous for being complete chavvy bastards. *pronounced Warrick for our friends over the pond, now go work on Leicester
harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,689 Posted November 19, 2008 Peter Quaife Is Peter Quaife ill? I've not really been keeping up with this lately. Dave Davies is never in the best of health. Any One Kink, anyone?
Banshees Scream 110 Posted November 19, 2008 Peter Quaife, the founding member of the Kinks, has been suffering from renal failure since 1998. A quality pick in my view. I also agree that Sir John Mortimer is worth the risk but I'm unaware of his fame status. Does he have Alzheimers or is it just me? Wendy Richard might be a little obvious for the commitee and Walter Cronkite has been in decent health. Selecting all these names is almost like playing chess. John Mortimer was a lawyer who represented the publishers of Oz magazine, who in 1971 were charged with obsenity. He also represented the Sex Pistols in 1977 regarding the flap over their album title Never Mind the Bollocks. By then, he had become known in Britain for the 'Rumpole of the Bailey' TV series which he wrote, which starred Leo McKern as an irascible but likeable barrister. Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted November 19, 2008 Take Eli Wallach off the Deathlist, firstly. Add/Keep: Wendy Richard Basil D'Oliveira Sir John Mortimer Little Richard Helmut Kohl Edwin Morgan Wojeciech Jaruzelski Annette Funicello Eunice Kennedy Shriver & Robert Sargent Shriver (husband & wife hit) Alberto Fujimori Jade Goody King Sihanouk Amy Winehouse Farrah Fawcett Sir Cyril Smith Ted Kennedy Kenny Richey Gough Whitlam James Garner All of the above are good DL material because they are famous enough, but most should have more exciting threads potentially then the likes of de Laurentiis or Lom...
